Via Paul Bedard. I’m using “endgame” ironically, of course. The liberal intelligentsia is patient, my friends. They know what’s right for America. If they need to wait awhile until America realizes it too, well, that’s the price of enlightenment.
They convinced the country that there’s an unwritten right to abortion in the Constitution, but somehow the fight over “Redskins” is over? The fight has just begun.
Per the crosstabs, that 70 percent of Democrats who say “Redskins” isn’t offensive is comprised of 49 percent who say it’s definitely not offensive versus 21 percent who say it’s “probably not.” Democrats are also one of only two demographic groups (postgraduates are the other) that reach double digits — 13 percent — who say the name’s “definitely” offensive. Hmmmm. Room to grow?
As for the separate question of whether they should change the name, feast your eyes:
Again, it’s Democrats in the lead on opposition, albeit verrrrry tepidly. Look again, though, at the numbers for gender and age. Women are less inclined to say the team should change its name than men, and famously liberal younger voters are less eager to see it happen than their elders. Is there an obvious explanation for those stereotype-defying quirks that I’m missing? I’d never have guessed.
Exit question: If you’re part of America’s broad and deep “keep the ‘Redskins’” consensus, what’s better for your cause? That the ‘Skins continue to play like crap, leaving the media with little to talk about except RGIII’s knee and this already-played-out topic, or that the ‘Skins turn things around, leaving the media to concern-troll about how having a Super Bowl contender with this name gives the league a black eye publicly?
Any Brown skinned American offended by the Cleveland football team?
Maybe Native Americans should be offended with Cleveland's baseball team...
Any fan of good football should be offended by the Cleveland football team.
But ESPN does, and that’s all that matters.
Just goes to show you: 11% of this country has its head up its a$$.
If F$U still allows their fans to say, “Scalp ‘Em, Noles” then they should keep the Redskins.
What about Twerking and Mylie? That;s important, too, you know.
Even the spelling/grammar Nazi's should be offended!
Looks to me that the gravy train of playing the black race card is coming to an end, and the race-baitors in media and gov’t need to find a fresh group to claim discrimination. They've been working on this for years.
FSU actually has the permission of the Florida Seminole tribe to use the name (and the tribe actually gets licensing fees from the deal). Good move by the college to make sure all the whiners are shut up.
Focusing on team names allows the Sharptons and Jacksons of the Native American civil right movement to raise money without having to explain their utter disregard for all of the social ills facing Native Americans.
Liberals get to feel good about themselves without having to address the fact that their big government philosophy (which has been tried to the nth degree with NA) fails when put into practice.
If the Redskins changed their names would 1 Native American be better off?
I’m a Dallas Cowboys fan and don’t want the Redskins to change their name.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said, “If one person is offended, we have to listen.” No you don’t! You tell the person to shut up and get a life.
The other 39% aren’t sure what NFL means.
Would anybody be offended if they call themselves the WhiteSkins?
They are still the Deadskins to me.
Add me to that 61%. The whole argument is silly.
The District of Corruption team should be called the Redtapes.
Don’t think that will be happening. The NFL excels at getting others to pay for it’s operations, such as taxpayers paying for stadiums, it’s minor league system mainly consists of colleges, etc. At the corporate level, the NFL is a nonprofit entity. Whatever the NFL wants, it gets.
