The legendary Swedish pop group ABBA is mulling a possible reunion next year, singer Agnetha Faltskog said in a German newspaper interview Sunday.

Next year marks the 40th anniversary of the band's first hit "Waterloo", which won them the Eurovision song contest and catapulted them to fame.

ABBA subsequently became one of the world's best-selling pop bands with a string of number one hits such as "Mamma Mia", "Dancing Queen" and "Super Trouper

Yes they composed the music. Tim Rice wrote the lyrics.

“they must be bored and broke”

Hardly either.

They are near the top with records sold, behind just the Beatles, Elvis.

One of the ladies married into royalty. The lads have remained active in music.

My Swedish uncle (distant, on my mom’s side) was an exec with their Swedish Record Company SKR (Svenska Köttbullar Rekord), and he told me they broke up on his and his company’s advice (he was a lawyer) to avoid a lawsuit over plagiarism from an Estonian group which originally composed and recorded, in the Soviet Estonia at the time, much of the material which Abba presented as their own.

Insofar as all four were established in music, and the guys have remained active, with Mama Mia, Kristina from Duvamala—two long running musical plays, I doubt they needed to plagarise.

They broke up, like other groups, because they are finished for the moment, drained, tired, need breaks, etc.

Plus the marriages were done.

Whenever I think of ABBA, I can’t help but to think of the movie “Murial’s Wedding”.

Muriel's Wedding - Waterloo

ABBA was huge in the U.S.S.R so one would think that would get out. Where are the youtubes of that other band’s songs for instance.

IIRC, and probably not, they were accused of plagiarism in the book ABBA gold. Waterloo has been compared to Build Me Up Buttercup and there are several other examples given. I never gave it much thought. Sure there are some musical similariteis but heck...listen to Old country western like I do...or John Prine songs. Most of his sound like copies of each other, LOL! BTW except for his politics he is one of my musical heroes.

Keith Richards has wrinkles on his wrinkles.

Wasn't a photo of Richards the inspiration for Pruneface in Warren Beatty's "Dick Tracy" movie?

It should've been.

Mike Mazurki was Splitface in 1945's "Dick Tracy."

All-time great performance as Moose Malloy in 1944's "Murder My Sweet." ("I want you should find my Velma.")

RE: One of my favorite groups is The Seekers, and Judith Durham’s voice is divine. She left the band to so a solo act...they broke up, and a few years ago they reuninted for a 25th anniversary tour.

Good news for you then, the Seekers are actually planning a 50th anniversary (Golden Jubilee) tour next year. Judith Durham is 70 years old but still sings like an angel.

Don't forget Mike... in John Ford's Cheyenne Autumn:

Sr. First Sergeant... [Mazurki]: [a Cossack] kills Poles just because they're Poles. Like we're trying to kill Indians just because they're Indians.

Capt. Thomas Archer... [Richard Widmark]: Come on, Wichowski. You fought Indians before!

Sr. First Sergeant... [Mazurki]: I fought Indians who wanted to fight me, not just some poor blanket-heads trying to go home!

Well, nobody's... perfect--

BTW when they were filming Cheyenne Autumn staying near Gunnison, Colorado, in early 1964, I was 15 and got to see a drunken Richard Widmark get his rump kicked in the bar of the Tomichi Lodge--

Say it ain't so! I always thought he had a lot of class. And father-in-law of Sandy Koufax.

On a John Ford film... you drank, period!

Not one of those Obama... 'periods' that don't mean shucks--

John Ford's periods were solid... and very, very manadory.
