Dayna Morales, a New Jersey waitress, made national news last month when she claimed she was left a hate-filled, anti-gay note instead of a tip. Last week, she came under fire when she was accused of faking the incident.
Morales has since been accused of making other false claims as well, including telling her friends and family she had brain cancer and claiming to have seen combat when she served in the military. Morales has been suspended from her job at the bistro while the restaurant completes its investigation into whether her story was a hoax.
Why would someone lie about being the victim of discrimination, assault or even a hate crime?

False report claims typically fit widely accepted cultural narratives, such as a gay waitress being the victim of homophobic slurs, or a young black woman being targeted by racists, or a young white woman being attacked by a black man. Many false reports are committed as a way to bring attention to legitimate social problems such as racism, sexual harassment, sexual assault and hate crimes. By adopting the public image of a victim and a social justice crusader, the hoaxer not only enjoys the sympathy and public support of others who support their cause, but also the attention. By implicitly aligning the false claims with a larger, valid social issue, the hoaxers discourage a close examination of their claims.

These people are predators. It is a way of crying wolf and letting people hang dry. I believe they are not so much interested in hurting the persons they accuse, but in screwing the system. Their target of exploitation are those believing them.
How many claims of “young white women attacked by black men” have turned out to have been faked? I wonder if Tawana Brawley or Crystal Mangum would know? Those are just two cases that immediately come to mind of the reverse happening.
Narcissism, according to Freud, and in accordance with the Greek myth of Narcissus, describes self-involvement or self-satisfaction, a completely passive tendency. Freud gives the example of a tiger, or a beautiful lady, each of whom may attract the attention or devotion of others, but without any overt effort to do so. Recall John Belushi’s ladder scene in Animal House. Very instructive.
Now, in the case of Obama, yes, I think you could see it that way. “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them” as Malvolio said, and Obama qualifies for the last of these, and his passive tendencies are evident.
However, contriving and perpetrating schemes to thrust oneself into the spotlight is not part of this syndrome, as I see it, and I’m firm on that point.

Yeah, saw that, too. The article actually managed to cite a case where a white woman faked being attacked by a black man. Haven’t verified its authenticity, but why bother? When a journalist has to be PC, they’ll hang their world view on the thinnest reed...

I think that's the primary reason. The vast majority of racism/sexism/"homophobia" claims that make the news turn out to be hoaxes, leaving only very mild complaints such as the elderly gays in nursing homes who complain that they don't get as many family visits as those who had children get. The far left would have no evidence at all to support their agenda if they didn't make it up.
They miss the obvious: homosexuality is a mental disorder. Of course homosexuals and other perverts are going to deceive, obfuscate, falsify. They are as far from reality is any group of individuals can be and busy trying to present themselves and their acts as “normal”.
