New Treatment for Peyronie's Disease Approved by FDA

FDA approves first drug treatment for Peyronie’s disease

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today approved a new use for Xiaflex (collagenase clostridium histolyticum) as the first FDA-approved medicine to treat men with bothersome curvature of the penis, a condition known as Peyronie’s disease.

Xiaflex is the first FDA-approved non-surgical treatment option for men with this condition, who have a plaque (lump) in the penis that results in a curvature deformity of at least 30 degrees upon erection.

Peyronie’s disease is caused by scar tissue that develops under the skin of the penis. This scar tissue causes an abnormal bend during erection and can cause problems such as bothersome symptoms during intercourse.

“Today’s approval expands the available treatment options for men experiencing Peyronie’s disease, and enables them, in consultation with their doctor, to choose the most appropriate treatment option,” said Audrey Gassman, M.D., deputy director of the Division of Bone, Reproductive and Urologic Products in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

Xiaflex is a biologic medicine (made from the protein product of a living organism, collagenase clostridial histolyticum). Xiaflex was first approved by the FDA in 2010 for the treatment of Dupuytren’s contracture, a progressive hand disease that can affect a person’s ability to straighten and properly use their fingers. Xiaflex is believed to work for Peyronie’s disease by breaking down the buildup of collagen (a structural protein in connective tissue) that causes the curvature deformity.

I know two people who have this condition and it's been said Peyronie's is highly unreported because of the embarrassment. I know some here joke about it because Clinton supposedly has it (The Bent One) but it can be a devastating thing to a man. Hopefully, this will help.

Yeah with left leaning Bill being the reason I ever heard of it. It makes it hard not to laugh.

The first leap forward under Obamacare is treatment of Clinton Disease?

I’m not surprised.

Will Bubba do TV ads like Bob Dole did?

“Hi I’m Bubba Clinton and all of my partners know I lean to the left, but sometimes I’d just like to stay middle of the road; that’s when I take “Straight as an Arrow.” SA acts fast and can fool even my favorite DNC girls.”

It might make DIRT-X-POTUS41 a middle-of-the-roader physically, but he remains a serial rapist and his politics always will be bent far to the left.

Oh, and put some ice that...

Went to the link and it hurt just reading the article, especially side effects and risks.
Reminds me of being in Vietnam and getting lectured that the cures for some of the exotic forms of VD were worse than the disease.
Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ...

Actually, the maker of Xiaflex has been trying to get this approved for many years, long before the Kenyan.

They have to lay it all out, no matter how slight the risks. I know a top notch urologist in southern California who is the leader in this field and he is very excited about this product.

And it hurts like hell. Not really something to laugh about.

Although, here is was...newly married. I had to get an ultrasound of my penis. I am laid out on my back. The tech is lumbering it up, and running the wand up and down. In comes the group of new RN students. And my high school girlfriend is amongst the students.

I never had eye contact like this with that girl in two years of dating.

I laugh now. But at an early age I learned there is no such thing as personal pride in the hospital.

LOL. When I was in the hospital I was joking with a young aid about embarrassment. She said something like “If you’re shy and you’re in the hospital.....” I finished with “Get over it.”

Peyronie’s disease is different in character from a similar condition called chordee, which also results in the unusual curvature of the penis.

The latter condition is associated with untreated gonorrhea, in which pustules form in the urethra, which when they reduce leave behind scarring, which causes the curvature. The near future may result in many more cases, because of the appearance of drug resistant gonorrhea.

I remember hearing that if you caught the “Black syf”
they just quarrantined you in vietnam til you rotted
to death. As a precautionary measure I’m sure, althought
that was before AIDS did away with precaution.
