West Antarctic Ice Melt; Water or Fire?
Canada Free Press ^ | 12/7/2013 | Timothy Birdnow

Poor Global Warming just can’t catch a break. Planetary temperatures aren’t cooperating, nor is the rate of sea level rise, and now even West Antarctica seems to be gouging James Hansen in the eye.

Well crap. Now I suppose we have to worry about the Antarctic tipping over too. Too much weight on one side kinda like Guam.

“We weren’t expecting to find anything like this,” Wiens said.

...and that is scientific discovery in a nutshell, right there. You form a theory, test it, and if you're lucky not only prove/disprove your theory, you discover something else along the way.

well, maybe not tip over, but makes the HAB Theory look more possible...

The cataclysms occur when the Earth is thrown off balance due to a massive, unbalanced accumulation of ice at the polar regions. As these polar ice caps grow, their enormous weight, accumulating unevenly as it does, creates an imbalance, and a wobble begins to develop in the rotation of the Earth on its axis. Year by year, as the ice caps grow, this eccentricity increases until, with devastating suddenness, the polar masses are thrown toward the point of greatest spin, which is the equator. Quite abruptly, the areas which were polar now become equatorial, and vice versa.

Thanks for the info. Now I won’t go near the equator for fear of being spun off the planet. LOL! Wonder how algore will address the possible axis shift? Glo-bull warming is my guess.

None of which is helped by the vast amounts of spin
generated by Washington!

Volcanoes spew CO2. If there are volcanoes we didn’t know about that is the source of some of the extra CO2 in the Atmosphere.

If the Earth were scaled down to the size of an Apple, the crust would be as thick as the skin on the Apple and all the water in the world would be just a mist of vapor on the surface of that skin.

Besides, the gravity pull from the Moon causes the whole planet to stretch into an oblate spheroid with it’s pointy end always toward the Moon. You would think that would cause an out of balance situation by itself.

prolly is, and the tipping point comes when the ice mass grows large enough to cause an unstable wobble

It is lunatic to think the earth’s axis of spin could possibly move 90 degrees from present. It is like saying that a football thrown as a tight spiral will somehow begin to tumble end over end.

All their dire predictions are based on computer models and anyone who has taken a Basics programing course knows about GIGO.

Right you are. The combined mass of water and ice is insignificant or nearly so to the mass of the earth. Water is estimated between 0.025% to 0.050% of the entire mass of Earth. Or 0.00025 to .00050 of the Earth’s mass. Almost nothing.

And all that constant stretching and shrinking has absolutely no effect on earthquakes occurring in that thin skin. /S

not tumble, tilt 90deg so that the poles move to the equator

the earth's ice mass is dynamic, what do you think would happen to a football if it's mass changed dynamically off axis during flight?

ever see a pass wobble in flight? that's due to how it's thrown even with stable mass, now have the mass change during flight

plus a football is nowhere near a sphere, let alone one with an off axis mass

i saw a HAB experiment with a toothpick through a ping-pong ball spun like a top then had liquid from an eyedropper dripped off axis near the top, guess what, it fell over...

The rotation of the earth causes it to be oblate. It's about 40 miles fatter across the middle. ( The Mississippi River flows against the force of gravity! True fact! )

The tidal field of the moon sweeps around the earth as the earth turns, of course, and the potential is only a few feet of the earth's gravitational potential at the surface, and this would be the elongation of the earth along the E-M axis, if the moon's rotation were synchronous.

Nevertheless, it does raise tides in the earth itself, as well as the oceans. And it is an unstable situation, since tidal friction causes the earth's tidally distorted shape to be "dragged ahead" a little bit, which causes the moon's orbit very slowy to recede.

So THAT'S what's causing my problem. And my wife thought I needed to go on a diet!
