The Toby Keith restaurant “no guns” policy non-story

Sadly for all concerned, there are more holes in this story than the soles of a four dollar pair of shoes after running a marathon. First and foremost, the supposed “outrage” (more on that below) is being directed at Toby Keith. What none of these outlets seemed to have done was check one of the essential facts which the local news station actually did uncover. I’ll highlight it below for those who missed it.

Some comments accuse Keith, who doesn’t own the restaurant, of being anti-gun.

The franchise is named after one of Toby Keith’s bigger hits, I Love This Bar. While their website doesn’t list any specifics, I’m sure they had to pay the country legend a fee to use his name and the name of his tune to market their eateries. Keith is not the owner and isn’t making policy for seating arrangements. I suppose he might be able to pull his name from them if he disagrees strongly enough, but that would depend on the terms of the deal they initially signed.

What troubles me is that there hasn't been a response from Toby Keith. The only response to all of this has been from the restaurant citing non-existent laws. Since he hasn't said a single word on the issue, I think that it's safe to say that he's on board with the ban.

From the article: “If the actual owners and management of the restaurant choose to not have patrons in an open carry state bring their guns on the premises I don’t see this as being much different than enforcing a dress code at upscale dining establishments.”

The author is full of s***. Of course there is going to be fallout to this. The gun grabbers are dancing at the thought of being able to show how someone who sings about guns won’t even allow them in his own restaurant. Whether he owns the restaurant or not.

In addition, this is not a “dress code” issue. Its a question of whether the restaurant respects its patrons right to protect themselves. Note that the sign prohibits firearms, period. It doesn’t clarify as “no open carry”, it bans them. So, the question for the patron becomes one of do I change my plans or disarm? While it’s not quite as offensive as posting a sign that says “No blacks allowed,” it’s in the same league.

I’m amazed at the lengths some will go to excuse the bad behavior of others.

Toby Keith is a liberal. He was so proud to vote for Obama

Keith is a Democrat and an Obama supporter, so I would expect him to be on board with it.

Good question.

.” Keith, a longtime Democrat, says he is now re-registering as an independent. “My party that I’ve been affiliated with all these years doesn’t stand for anything that I stand for anymore,” he reports. “They’ve lost any sensibility that they had, and they’ve allowed all the kooks in. So I’m going independent.”

(It is believed he voted for McCain / Palin)

While Keith has gone on the record praising Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, he has never publicly endorsed either candidate. But he tells CMT that he’ll likely go with the Republican ticket this year, partially because of his admiration for Palin. “Palin’s about the least political-looking, acting, resembling person that’s ever run for office,” Keith says of the Alaska governor. “

Never put your name on anything you are not willing to take responsibility for.

> Keith is a Democrat and an Obama supporter...

That's 5 years out of date. He WAS a Democrat, but left the Democrat party (registered Independent) in 2008 and said he was voting Republican.

In October 2008, Keith told CMT that he had left the Democratic Party and has re-registered as an independent. "My party that I've been affiliated with all these years doesn't stand for anything that I stand for anymore," he says. "They've lost any sensibility that they had, and they've allowed all the kooks in. So I'm going independent." He also told CMT that he would likely vote for the Republican ticket, partially because of his admiration for Sarah Palin.

He's certainly no rock-ribbed Conservative, but it does sound like he gained some sense.

Whether he’s gained much sense remains to be seen, IMO. A search turned up an interview Keith did with Joy Behar in 2011, in which he said that Obama had been such a young rock star, but “they beat him down.”

Doesn’t matter to me who he votes for, though...I’m not a fan of his or of country music in general.

Hope all those people who were dissing Keith with their knee jerk reactions are now walking around with bloody noses.

Since he hasn't said a single word on the issue, I think that it's safe to say that he's on board with the ban.

That, or he's smart enough to recognize his business is artistic music, not voicing opinions on real issues (Dixie Chic Syndrome).

When an 'artist' wades into the political spectrum (actor, musician or otherwise), I'm of the opinion they properly paint a target on their back and should expect an 'effect' on their business. Sometimes that depends solely on what side of the aisle they're on. If they stick to 'art', I could care less, and that includes not putting their money to work in place of their mouths...

If he stays silent, I don't fault him. I don't know who the hell he is anyway...

I would think that if one was going to make a derogatory comment about a person or some other subject that they would at least have an inkling of what they were talking about.

It’s no wonder so many conservatives are branded uneducated hillbillies. Either that’s what we are or there are a lot of trolls posting on the forum.

Oh yes it does. Speaking out against something shows dissent. Silence implies consent!

Silence does not imply consent.

Actually, yeah, it does. If you stand silent in the face of something that goes against your principles, then you are giving tacit approval to that thing; especially when you are directly affected by that thing. This is the case here. Toby Keith's name is hanging above a door that tells gun owners they're not wanted and he's been as quiet as a churchmouse about it.

Given that he was talking with Joy Behar (ultra-lib, GLAAD-certified, agnostic, feminist, etc.) maybe he was willing to say anything that would let him escape with his manhood intact. LOL.

Actually, "they beat him (Obama) down" has a degree of accuracy in it, given that right-thinking people did try to limit the damage Obummer has been doing, which probably looks like ganging up on him to some folks. Well, too bad, is my view. We've been trying to keep that damn Marxist from screwing everything up, and to make the best of the gawdawful mess he's delivered the past 5 years.

But like they say, you just can't polish a turd.

The British Guardian said that Keith was at the opening of the new Virginia joint. If so apparently he had no qualms about the policy.
