Mysterious Crop Circle Spotted in Salinas
NBC Bay Area ^ | Tuesday, Dec 31, 2013

Is it the work of aliens or practical jokers? An unusual creation has popped up on a farm just south of the Bay Area.

A giant crop circle has appeared on Chualar farm in Salinas, Calif.

Aerial photographer Julie Belanger spotted the crop circle as she was flying over the valley Monday morning.

Belanger took the photo you see here as well as this raw video.

"It was beautiful. Quite beautiful," Belanger told NBC affiliate KSBW. "I believe it's possible that aliens exist, but I don't know if they would bother making a crop circle to give us a message."

It’s more likely that it’s all part of publicity stunt. According to MontereyHerald.com, guards from a South Bay security company were on hand Monday morning on behalf of their client, whose identity they could not reveal.

Adding to the mystery is this YouTube video posted today by user “Cannot Say” of a couple of friends stumbling upon the crop circle before sunrise.

“Aerial photographer Julie Belanger spotted the crop circle as she was flying over the valley Monday morning.”

Just by absolute coincidence, of course.

It’s comical that the path of entry (at the bottom of the circle) is so clear from this aerial shot, and yet there are still going to be nutjobs who buy into this utter BS.

Crop circles do fascinate me. Plenty of them are hoaxes. Most are really not explainable. The real key is in how the plants lay down. Secondary is the complexity, though when the two are put together, some of these things are just baffling.

I like this one better; the creators flew over it and scanned it, and it worked!

I told those guys to never come back to this solar system. Looks like I’d better pull the old star cruiser out of the garage and warm her up.

Within the realm of possibilities here I see some very intelligent and creative person designing a small tractor like machine with an implement that would lay down the crop to create this effect. The controls for this tractor would be computer and/or precision GPS.

This is not science fiction here. There are many agricultural implements out there now for doing real work such as GPS guided full size tractors and combines. There are so may technological advances in farming it is truly unbelievable. When we bought a CaseIH tractor in 2005 this technology was there, where the salesman said a farmer could cultivate a field from his home using a computer and GPS guided tractor. The salesman could have been BS’ing me in part, but that company did sell GPS guided devices for controlling Case tractors for precision work.
