45 Survival Uses for Alcohol.
CTD's The Shooter's Log ^ | 7/13/2013 | CT Suzanne

I have read that ethanol alcohol—the kind of alcohol that makes us drunk—was the first synthesized product that humans made. Originally made from honey, fruits, berries, grains, and other plants left in the sun to ferment, alcohol and its first use documented as far back as 10,000 B.C.

Historically, fermented beverages:

Acted as a substitution for water Fixed nutritional deficiencies Served medicinal purposes

Alcohol also had its place in religious ceremonies and even used as currency. Supposedly, vodka was an ingredient in early European gunpowder. And of course, people drank alcohol in order to become intoxicated.

When shopping for liquor, you will find two different numbers on the bottle. One is the percentage and one is the proof. The percentage is the amount of true ethanol alcohol content, while proof is the official government designation of how much alcohol content is in the beverage. Divide the proof in half to get the actual percentage of alcohol.

Someone here said they were allergic to alcohol... it made them break out in handcuffs.

Yup.

A bit of critical life saving information that was only recently discovered — the cause of infection and disease.

You have to be careful when distilling it from wood. It is flammable.

Also, it is a heck of a lot easier to produce. Ethanol requires fermentation and time. Lots of work.

Distilling from wood is immediate.

A Bible, a bottle of Bourbon, and a .44 ought to see anyone through any calamity.

I have very high energy children. Active play inside just isn’t the same as going outside to play, which can’t happen because of the weather. So I’m using alcohol to survive several days of being cooped up with my kids lol!

A member from another forum I read had a German mother in law that lived through the Soviet attack and occupation of her town. To this day she has a basement filled with cases of vodka, pallets of toilet paper, and long shelf life foods.

She claimed that you could purchase anything on the black market with vodka easily. Plus the mentioned uses to sterilize wounds, purify water, and as fuel(everclear). Vodka basically is 4 parts everclear 6 parts water.

My father used cigarettes while in Germany during the occupation to purchase services, but tobacco probably isn’t the best long term storage barter material. These new nicotene vaporizers may have some use there though. As a non smoker stationed overseas, I could make a nice little profit selling my cigarette ration to the chainsmokers in the unit. Amazing what nicotene addicts will do for their fix.

That’ll work, but don’t fall asleep or you might wake-up all tied-up at a burning stake. LOL.

Over 60% alcohol (120 proof) is an effective anti-bacterial agent for sanitation, as a food preservative, to make herbal and medicinal herbal extracts (much stronger and doesn’t spoil quickly). It is also a very good solvent.

It’s traditional use was a means to put surplus crops in a high energy, compact form for transport or to keep through the winter months without spoilage.

***vodka was an ingredient in early European gunpowder. ***

Interesting. My book says urine was used, and the best urine was from a wine drinking Bishop.
Saltpetre
Sulfur
charcoal.
blended together with urine, dried and broken up into small granules (corned powder).

Lol, they’re 5, 2, and 4 months. For the older two, there is nothing like playing outside to wear them out properly. It’s been a week of bickering and fighting. I’ll take your advice though!

Funny story. Years ago we had a train derailment in my village. Tank cars carrying wood alcohol tumbled snd released their contents into the air. Three younger FIrefighters walked between the stopped cars to get to the station. They ingested enough of the stuff to be taken to the ER. As it turns out “ethyl alcohol.” Is the antidote. The were treated by IV and kept to a .2 BAC for three days. It was funny to see these guys so drunk. I remember them swearing off alcohol for a long time.
