JACKSON, MI – This new year started with a deluge of snow and bone-chilling temperatures, but that’s nothing new to Jackson.
Throughout the ages, hale and hearty souls here have endured winter – and spring – snows that have made getting around challenging, if not nearly impossible.
In honor of that – and another pending storm predicted to dump much more of the white stuff here this weekend – is a Peek Through Time extra look back at a couple of notable past Jackson blizzards.

So far the snow is still mostly falling down rather than sideways but I think we'll end up with far more than is predicted.
Ah, memories of my childhood. Nothing like driving a ‘56 Chevy on a frozen lake making rooster tails.
Last time I drove on the ice was around 1990 or so on Wilbur Lake near Concord. I had a little Ford Courier pickup that didn’t weigh much more than a snowmobile.

In fact he was still living between Concord and Hanover then and was in on the plowing and dragging cars out of the drifts.
Just got out of bed and made my morning coffee. son called to tell me to stay safe, I looked out the window and have about 1 foot of snow on top of the mail box. Its nasty but you gotta say it sure is pretty hanging on all the trees. Its true, every cloud has a silver lining.

Where are you again? Being retired has its advantages but living in the suburbs as I do has its drawbacks.........
Here in macomb county, the storm has now hit and even tho my condo complex has snow removal svcs., I went out and shoveled the first inch that had been coming down throughout this afternoon. But they're warning us that the worst is coming............oh well.
Living out in the country as you do is far more fun in the winter even tho the county snow removal isn't as timely as they try to be down here. But then again, you folks are prepared.
Winter in Michigan is indeed beautiful but only if you live in an area where you can appreciate it.........
The interesting thing about living in the country, is that the snow stays white and pretty a lot longer than in the city. When I had the farm, all the farmers got out early in the morning and plowed out the road and driveways. Much easier in the country to get from point A to point B.
Great now downstate Michigan is stealing our snow too.
lovely picture. Some years I’d go to sleep with no snow and wake up with 8 inches on the ground. At those times I felt bad having to let my dog out to pee. Squat and freeze in delicate places...
I was in elementary school in Avon Township during that blizzard. Our side of the street was the last to have power in our neighborhood, so we ended up pet sitting for numerous families. Had all kinds of extension cords running hither and yon so people could run their furnaces now and then. Nobody b!tched about food spoilage because we all had the sense to put things in coolers and leave them outside. Good times, good times...

Thanks for the memories. It was 77° when we had dinner on my pool deck this evening on the FL Space Coast.
