Parents call police for help, cops show up and kill their 18-year-old son

Two North Carolina parents are in shock after local police shot and killed their 18-year-old son in their own home, while they watched helplessly.

The family called police because they were worried about their son, Keith Vidal, who is schizophrenic and suffers from depression, according to local news. Vidal, armed with a small screwdriver, was apparently having a psychotic episode. Mark Wilsey, Vidal’s father, called the authorities to help deal with the situation.

An officer from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and another from the Boiling Spring Lakes police department showed up to the house soon after. Eventually, a third officer from the Southport police department entered the home as well, and ordered the use of tasers to subdue Vidal. According to Wilsey, Vidal was pinned on the ground by two of the officers when a third said, “we don’t have time for this,” and shot Vidal, killing him.

Vidal had just turned 18, and weighed a mere 90 pounds. He couldn’t have hurt anyone with the screwdriver, and had no history of violence according to family and friends.

“There was no reason to shoot this kid,” said Wilsey in a statement. “They killed my son in cold blood. We called for help and they killed my son.”

After her son was killed, Vidal’s mother suffered a mental breakdown and was treated by medical staff.

The New Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office told The Daily Caller that no statement has been released yet, but the district attorney and state investigators are looking into the shooting.

A similar thing happened to a Georgia family in October. (RELATED: Family calls 911 for medical help, cops show up and kill son)

What a horrible shame

Militarization of John Law is something liberty loving patriots will confront some day sooner than many here like to wish

Be ready.

Make them earn it.

It will be a split decision at best

Where did our country go....

I could be mistaken, but I think you need the cops to 5150 someone.

I’ve only had to do it twice, with no harm to the guest of honor.

I wouldn’t go as far as you in defending these cops, but it is certainly reasonable to point that this story is not about what happened, it’s about what the family says happened.

The story may be 100% true, or it may be completely invented. But it is at this point just a story told by a grieving family.

Only call the cops when you want a living creature killed.

if excessive force complaints involving fatalities were prosecuted as murder the murder rate for law enforcement officers would exceed the general population murder rate by 472%.”

No doubt true.

A few points.

Cops are by definition far more likely than the general population to be involved in violent confrontations.

Some large percentage of those complaints are not justified. As others have pointed out, George Z. was convicted in the media of using excessive force. The jurors and anybody else who bothered to find out the facts know different.

Prosecuting excessive force complaints as murder doesn't make them murders. This is the argument that if your aunt had wheels she'd be a tea cart.

Hey friend, I break up fights in bars all the time with men who weigh more than a sack of potato's.

Absolutely right. I worked as a bouncer when I was younger, floated between three establishments for two years and never had to hurt anyone, never got hurt myself. If the story is accurate there's a lack of training, brains and humanity going on here.

What would one of these officers do in a club security role with drunk and sometimes drugged up patrons...reach for their 9mm penis and remember they don't have one, shyte themselves, and call their PD to send in the tank?

What happened to the freaking "MEN" in this country?

>> I find it truly hard to believe that a cop just went over there and said “We don’t have time for this,’ and shot a person for no reason.

Of course not.

>> It is more likely that the family invented this statement in order to set the stage for suing.

Not necessarily.

I seriously doubt anyone in your family deserves the authority to kill other citizens. But that is also true for 95% of the Country’s inhabitants.

It’s time to triple the pay LEOs get. But it’s also time to eliminate bennies, immunity, and sub-excellent standards.

Anyone licensed to kill must be the most intelligent, most disciplined, most honorable, most Constitutional. The best.

I commend you for being honest about why you often defend lawmen.

That’s fine.....I understand....I wouldn’t turn on my daddy or pappy either

I’m ambivalent....I have had good relationships with cops and have also been severely beaten while cuffed up by two black city of Miami cops later sent to jail for home invasion.

The Barrett brothers...their story may be online....

I know in my heart our political struggles have become politics by other means

I live in fear for what is coming for my boys...I’m old....I’m gonna die anyhow

Where will cops fall...gun grabbers Lon Horiuchi murderers or how many come to our side?

Given ATF and other feds I have no hope there

Locals....geography and race maybe religion too.....will likely matter some

You have to pick sides you didn’t want to have to

Damned sad ain’t it.....and it will be so terrible

I think of that whenever I see amped up cops laden with taxpayer toys and black guns pretending to be recon rangers...like yeah...right.

Color me unimpressed.....why on earth does every burg have some armored attack vehicle and squad machine guns?

I like old school slouch hat wheel gun redneck southern cops like I grew up with mo better

Cops gonna have to decide whether they want to be upholders of the blood our ancestors shed for freedom.....or targets of opportunity....I’m not trying to be ugly....just look how civil conflict plays out.....I’ve seen this over and over personally from Sierra Leone to Haiti to Jamaica to Colombia plus a few others

Police become targets of insurgents.....the latter being.us in this case at some point.

And 90 pounds? He could have worn my hand as a hat. THREE "he-men" police officers?

Are they graduating from killing dogs to killing people the SIZE of a dog?

I know myself...I’ve worked hard to learn to play well with others and abide laws and societal boundaries....I was a veritable wild man till late 30s......we all keep part of what we once were alive don’t we?

I doubt I’m the only one on this forum

If anyone badge or no badge murdered my family member

Especially a 90 pound mentally ill son.....being scared and panicked and distraught in your mind is hard enough by itself when you can’t damned stop it no matter how hard u try

I would not care what happened to me...at worst.

At best I would plan.

It would not go unanswered.

We only have the parents side who decided to go to the media claiming the police killed their darling, innocent son! While the police are being investigated.

The poor police are being investigated. It breaks my heart. /s

If you are aware of a civil conflict in recent memory where the police are not identified as the enemy ...even if unmerited...of those resisting a heavy hand please give me one...

I’ve seen it with my own eyes....many times

Cops are actually easy targets compared to govt forces....

The Irish war of independence or whatever one likes to call it is a case study...

None of these fears give me comfort whatsoever with 5 children....but I’m fearful we don’t have the votes anymore...we left the gates open..etc

Very well said WD ....agree 100%. There are good and bad people. Some with a badge and some without. Criminals and patriots come in all forms. Evil and good comes in all forms.

Stay frosty , aware and not afraid to call a turd a turd.....

Stay safe !

This isn’t your dad’s police force anymore, and this isn’t just happening there, Canada is getting just as bad. They used to go to Depot in Regina for training and learned how to serve and protect, now it’s an us vs them mentality.

I’m sure there’s a few good ones still left but by and large these types are stories are far too common now.
