LOS ANGELES Meryl Streeps Tuesday speech in which she labeled the late Walt Disney a gender bigot is being criticized by some who worked with the Hollywood legend, and others who have a much different take on the Hollywood giants life.
Walt Disney animator Floyd Norman, who worked alongside the mogul on films including the classic Sleeping Beauty, told us Streep is simply misinformed.
I arrived at Disney in 1956 as a young artist. Surprisingly, there were a fair number of young women working in the art department. I too had heard that women were not allowed in animation. So, even in the '50s, things were already beginning to change, he told FOX411. While it is true the studio regarded women differently from men in the '30s, I found many young women who had nothing but good things to say about their years in Ink and Paint. Most loved Uncle Walt and never regarded him as a sexist.
Indeed it was very much the norm in the '30s for women to be closed off from jobs in the animation arena, so some argue that Disney was more of a product of his time. But as early as 1941, Disney is reported to have told male artists working on Dumbo that if women can do the work as well, she is worth as much as a man.
The myths surrounding Walt Disney are to be expected, I guess. Like most famous men of his time, his legacy has continually been challenged, Norman said. No matter how many times we refute the lies about Walt, they seem to continue. I think some people will simply never like the man, no matter what we have to say.
Another long-term, current Disney employee described Streeps harsh words as plain weird.

..she's become an embarrassment.
Just another old washed up Hollywood hag joining the other hateful hags Cher Bono, Barbara Streisand, etc. berating the world to try to make themselves look better .... a real trick!
In 1964 Disney received an award from President Johnson. It was rumored for a long time that Disney wore a Goldwater button to the ceremony.
Recently Animation historian Michael Barrier was able to verify that indeed this was true.
Very well said, my Friend.
To the vast majority it is ALL about money and fame.
You’re right about most being rabid-ass sociopaths too, especially that because they live in a fantasy world! :-)
Thanks, I wasn’t aware of that but Goldwater was the first candidate I voted for in a presidential election.
I do remember some of the attempted defamation of Disney in the 50’s but as I remember there wasn’t much attention given to it.
A typical Holly-weird lib. Plays a character in a movie, and interacts on film with another actor portraying Walt Disney, and thinks she’s an expert on Disney’s behavior and personality.
Streep certainly didn’t seem to mind taking the Disney Company’s money for her portrayal of Cruella De Vil.
This isn’t the first time Streep raised a ruckus by talking through her anal orifice! If memory serves, she was one of the Hollywood whackos who went to Congress and pitched a fit over a pesticide, Alar, being sprayed on apples, a la, “What are we doing to our children?!”
IMHO, if she and many others actually gave a crap about children, they’d be pro-life and anti-abortion!
If Disney DID wear the Goldwater pin, wouldn’t THAT put the lie to the meme that he was anti-Semitic?
See this link for a description of Disny’s wearing the Goldwater button at the ceremony.

Maybe next time do a little research, Meryl.
I thought Glen Close played DiVille.
No surprise that a Hollyweird denizen would speak nonsense fiction based on nothing other than their own brainless ideas of what must have been
“Just another old washed up Hollywood hag joining the other hateful hags Cher Bono, Barbara Streisand, etc. berating the world to try to make themselves look better .... a real trick!”
The only way they could make themselves look better is dousing themselves in gasoline and setting it ablaze..... They’ll have to pony up for the extra carbon credits though.
Streep is a typical classless liberal. If she care about the poor, she would donate her home to the poor.
Thanks jazusamo.
Could be—I don’t follow this stuff too closely.
Thanks...Burl Ives was a great actor and performer.
BINGO!
