A new report from the Schott Foundation reveals that only 47 percent of black male students earn a high school diploma on time. Ironically, this report came out shortly after Judge Vaughn Walker ruled regarding Proposition 8 in California. If the statements on which Judge Walker based his ruling are "facts," how do we explain what is happening educationally to boys in the black community where a large majority are growing up without fathers?
Nancy Pearcey, in an article on American Thinker, identified certain "facts that Judge Walker claims are now established by the 'evidence' presented in his courtroom." Those "facts" presumably will be deemed as "truth" far beyond the courtroom. Among those "facts," the following three are especially relevant for young black boys' futures:
• "Gender no longer forms an essential part of marriage."
• "The gender of a child's parent is not a factor in a child's adjustment."
• "Having both a male and a female parent does not increase the likelihood that a child will be well-adjusted."
Those three general false principles that Judge Walker supposedly established in his arguments in favor of so-called "same-sex marriage" are equally faulty when applied to the more than 40 percent of today's children who are born to single mothers. They are doubly relevant when the majority of those children are black.
Here are some irrefutable facts that Judge Walker and his ilk need to ponder.

A crowd loves a crowd. If it’s not cool or if it makes you too white, they won’t graduate. There is so much negative conformity going on.
Yet there are some very smart black men. Dr. Ben Carson, Col. Allen West are famous but I know there are more. I work with two black male nurses and they are smart. I still think it has more to do with parenting than IQ numbers. Dr. Carson’s mother insisted that he read and wrote book reports even though she could barely read and had a third grade education. I believe our own government has done more to keep blacks down, especially black men, than biology has.
That same cultural view is what Obama is now espousing with the inequality meme. Let’s beat up on those who choose to excel. What a nightmare!
I would never have thought to equate what Holder is doing with education. It seems he is more interested in social justice through more tolerance of black militance and bad behavior, the results being anti education in the traditional sense of learning useful, productive subjects and information that might help black children succeed in life.
The social engineering of marriage and the family institution, or what would be more aptly called the social overthrowing of marriage and family, is also anti education. It is difficult to look objectively at what the left is doing and not conclude they are producing brutes of destruction, like using shoddy materials in the construction of society's highrise.

I read about a game preserve in Africa. The young male elephants were attacking and killing the hippos. The game manager imported some older adult male elephants. When the younger elephants attacked the hippos the older elephants would beat the sh*t out of them. Soon, all was harmony and none of them bothered the hippos.
LOL...Zing! I detest these British degradations of the English language, too. Did you go to hospital recently? Have you been to university? Interestingly, in US English, it’s acceptable to say “I went to college” but it is proper to say “I went to THE university.” The inconsistencies of our language!

You forgot the argument I heard once... “why would young black males want to work for a fast food company or something when there was so much more money to be made selling drugs on the street?”

Titles like this really annoy me. Nobody can “Graduate High School.” You can, however, “Graduate FROM High School.”
Mom is either too busy working to make ends meet or too busy scamming the US taxpayer...
Since there is no black successful male adults to model themselves after, black youth identify with the thug culture, rap, basketball, NFL, drugs, pricey sneakers...
An education is an after thought...why won't it be when you can be an aspiring rapper, basketball player or drug dealer...
Add to that the fact the school system is run by blacks in big cities, that dumb down the education they receive. My husband spent 20 yrs as a JR. College Prof, for computer and electronic science. His non-city schooled students, foreign students, knew their math. The inner city school students who graduated with A/B were mostly black, had to have REMEDIAL math to do the course. He has heard it has grown worse since you now have the hispanics in the mix, he retired 7 yrs ago, but keeps up with his younger teaching peers, who are about to retire with in the next few years.

All the ‘bad stuff’ that is going on in America can be traced to what is going on in Washington, DC and the incompetence of political leadership.
Walker sounds like a staunch utilitarian here. Without looking at the deeper dynamics of what makes humanity go, he tries to figure out what would help there to be more families, which he does figure correctly are good things. So if they need to be “gay” to have more of them, he goes for that. Of course that’s only a surface view. But I want to chide the good guys a little, too, and ask them if they have been skimming the surface more than God would want them to. Maybe Walker is not the only skimmer in this picture.
Let’s get good and radical here. Every family on earth gets its name from God the Father. That’s the foundation of the family. The makeup is only the means. You probably could have something like a Jonathan-and-David relationship bringing up foster kids, it would not be ideal in the lack of a mother, but it would be better than nothing. Now Jonathan and David were chaste. “Gays” like to liken themselves to that pair, who were such buddies they would even share their clothes in love, something that would strike most of us as icky. But they were chaste; this was the agape love of the Lord that moved them. Anyhow, most actual “gays” are not just sinners trying to feel their way towards God’s best for them. (If they were, they would soon move past that stage, realizing that their masculine identities have a divinely blessed purpose beyond self gratification.) They’ve settled upon this and say that God wants them to just sit there, in their spiritual shackles. And that peeves God mightily.
THIS is the deep picture. And it, or even a simplification, seems to be lacking in modern Christian attempts to defend keeping families traditional. And so maybe shallow thinking is inviting more shallow thinking more than they realize. The heterosexual male who seeks to offer purity to the Lord, either single or married, will be seen to have a whole host of virtues. Homosexuals tend to be snotty and selfish (where do you think the “dishy” stereotype came from). If defending heterosexual families (even single men) to the world, don’t forget those virtues, and they can be empirically proven. The unsaved world wants to forget virtues and focus on airy theory just because they are so proud of those airy theories.
C’mon, all- you know the answer: RACISM!
Anecdotal evidence of smart black men is unimportant when millions of kids are at issue. I could add to your list Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell, both of whom I think are brilliant. But, that simply doesn’t matter to the question of an entire population having a mean IQ that is many points below 100, and the subject at hand is academic achievement. Good parenting can no more make millions of 70-IQ kids graduate high school than it can make millions of 100-IQ kids master calculus.
Yes. I’m afraid that you are quite correct. A cursory examination of our nation’s history will show that voting was never intended to be a commercial transaction. Voting was to select the person for a job who would get the most efficiency and effectiveness from the hard-earned taxpayer’s dollar.

Thomas Sowells book BlLACK REDNECKS AND WHITE LIBERALS (great book, by the way) destroys this and many other myths. If all things are equal, blacks are, too. Unusual cultural ideas change soooo many aspects of our lives.
