If you own a cat, you probably identify as something like its mother, albeit a human version, who feeds it, entertains it, and licks its fur to keep it clean (hopefully not). Unfortunately, your cat sees your pet-owner relationship much differently, according to the new book Cat Sense by English biologist Dr. John Bradshaw. It actually thinks youre a larger, non-hostile cat.
-snip-
When a cat kneads your body or the surface of a bed, its a behavior thats meant for its mothers belly, a message to keep milk flowing. Rubbing up against a human leg or hand is a way of treating you as another cat, the clearest way cats show their affection for us, Bradshaw explains. Leaving dead rats around the house isnt a way of feeding their owners, but rather, the cats want a safe place to eat their kill. When they actually take a bite of the victim, they realize their normal human-delivered cat food tastes way better. And if youve ever seen a rat in any major city, this should be obvious.

I don’t see the diff between Mama or Papa and a great big cat who feeds it.
Also, I think the reason women often prefer cats is because we’re hard wired to take care of small warm cuddly things, and they’re happy to oblige. Match made in heaven!
Cats actually agree on this point.
I’m a guy, and I like both cats and dogs. (And despite this article, I’m still reasonably certain that my tomcat sees me as a surrogate mama.)
Lots of guys are very nurturing (in a manly way! LOL!). Cats love my dad and vice versa. But I think women are programmed by nature for it.
This must apply to rats only.
My cats catch mice, rabbits, chipmunks and give them to my dog who eats them.
The feral cat who had kittens in my home, had a stash of dead mice nearby till I found her and started feeding her.
Sometimes they bring their catch indoors to snack on later, after they've tossed the carcass throughout the house. Other times they eat it where they caught it. Outdoors.
It has nothing to do with feeding the owner or safe place to eat.
She had a dozen different cat ears and tails, furry socks and cat shoes, cat belts, and her clothes had all kinds of cat badges and images and slogans, etc.
A good worker, and seemed completely normal otherwise, so HR just let her come to work each day.
We had a lot of foreign born workers, they were completely fascinated by her, and would ask her permission to take her picture on breaks, which they would send to friends and family still living in the homeland.
We also had a guy who had perfectly manicured three inch finger nails.
I'm told he was obsessed with the Hugh Jackman Wolverine movies, but I never heard him mention that myself.
The Filipino women called him “The Eagle.”
That's actually kind of cute.
try a clam...had one once...kept it in a fish bowl...never fed it...never knew if it was dead or alive...low maintenance...George, the clam.
Yeah, it was all good until she started shedding, right?
“...HR just let her come to work each day.”
And threw her a halibut from time to time? Easier to keep on check than most employees, I suppose. As long as the fish doesn’t run out. Otherwise, I’d have accounting on quick dial - that could turn ugly
My much beloved kitty, now an angel, must have thought I was her mom. She use to knead me. She would also knead her stuffed panda.
Drove me crazy. I hated it. Now I miss it so much.
My screen name Fai Mao, is a transliteration of my English name (Philip)into Chinese. Fai Mao means Fat Cat means Fat Cat so I really an giant cat
Glad to avoid all this by having a dog :)
My cat knows that she is the ZooKeeper in a human Zoo.
The opposite is why men like dogs... Men need validation of their dominance and ability to lead or fontrol... and an obedient goofy dog provides that.
Cat Ping.
