A couple years ago doc put us on Crestor for cholesterol...the prescription price via insurance was $30 for a month's supply.

Just got my first refill for the new year. $180. Thanks, Obamugabe.

“If you like your cheap prescriptions you can keep your cheap prescriptions.”

Well, you CAN, but you will have to pay more for it.

Go to the internet. Get a Simvastatin coupon. We didn’t use insurance and got 90 days simvastatin supply for under $20.00 total RETAIL cash price at Walmart, where they accepted the coupon. We were skeptical about internet coupons, but were pleasantly surprised. Have done this twice.

Unfortunately, they’ll be a billion more stories like this during the next year.

But more importantly for you, if you HAVE to take a statin, switch to one of the generics: they all do the same thing.

But even better, strongly consider the pros and cons of stains. First of all, there is no link between cholesterol levels and CAD. That has now been disproved by numerous studies, though triglycerides are indeed associated with heart diseas.

Second, doctors don’t know why statins seem to work, though they DO know it’s not because they lower cholesterol. There’s a number of other drugs that will reduce cholesterol just fine but do not reduce mortality, CAD, or heart disease. So it’s not the cholesterol-reduction function of statins that are beneficial. My cardiologist admitted all of the above. He says he thinks it may be that statins somehow stabilize existing plaques, helping to keep them from rupturing. Others believe statins might be anti-inflammatory, in which case aspirin might work as well.

Finally, statins are known to inhibit the production of CO-Q10, a compound that is used by the heart more than any other muscle.

If its an HSA you need to manage your money wisely. It’s not your typical insurance policy. I save a lot with my HSA but I have to pool some cash for the beginning of the year.

Chiming in... download from Amazon: The Great Cholesterol Myth: Why Lowering Your Cholesterol Won’t Prevent Heart Disease-and the Statin-Free Plan That Will by Stephen Sinatra... less than $10.

Doctors see you nothing more than an Rx for the pharmacy. As a previous poster mentioned, statins do more harm than good. No WOMAN should be taking a statin at all. A change in the way of eating will help you tremendously. After this book, pick up Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis and then Grain Brain by Dr. David Perlmutter.

I’ve eliminated sugar and grains and lost 45 pounds since April. I’m no longer taking the two Rx’s for Type 2 diabetes and no longer on high blood pressure meds. I DO have an under active thyroid.

Just my 2 cents... grains (wheat, corn, rice, oats, barley, etc.) are rotting us from the inside out.

I read that the baby aspirin can damage the pancreas. Don’t know if it is true though

To all of the voters who voted for Obama who are feeling the pain of Obamacare, I have no sympathy for you.

If you think that's bad, do I have a story for you!

I take Humira to manage my Ankylosing Spondylitis.

Last year, I paid $5/mo. for my medication in large part due to the "evil" drug maker giving me a $500/mo. allowance towards my co-pay. My "evil" insurance (BC/BS) picked up the rest.

Humira is a biologic drug that literally "switches off" the inflammation gene which causes the TNF (Tumor Necrosis Factor) to go crazy in my body, causing my spine to go into spontaneous fusion. I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis in October of 2010 after four major back surgeries to remove bone spurs, repair a broken and collapsed vertebrae, and to repair several herniated discs between the ages of 22 and 43. Humira for me has been a LIFE CHANGING drug in that I'm not in constant pain, and have been able to lead a somewhat normal life with a few limitations.

I got the call on Friday for my refill, and was informed I must now pay $1,940/mo for the drug because it's been "re-classified." Not only will I *not* be refilling my medication anytime soon, I'll likely be filing for disability in the next six months as the drugs effects on my body begin to wear off and my spine starts spontaneously fusing itself again, further impairing my ability to walk.

Many don't know it yet, but those of us with chronic or ongoing health conditions that require medications like Humira, or simple maintenance medications are getting HAMMERED financially by Obamacare. It's pretty clear to me that Obama and this Government want me, and people just like me to simply DIE despite the fact that I'm a hardworking TAXPAYER (Net Taxes 2012 were $59,762 paid to the Feds and State of Illinois.) One might think they'd actually want to keep me around as a tax slave. Go figure. Thanks Obama! (you worthless POC!)

My mother (77) got diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a year ago. I brought her to live with me and got her to stop taking her Lipitor. She was re-diagnosed by a different doctor a couple months ago, and they say now that she doesn’t have Alzheimer’s.

You don't have to pay that!

The only way to get the government out of our health care system is to BOYCOTT THE ENTIRE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM. If the patriots in this country refuse to participate, the system will be forced to bend to our will. Tear up your Medicare/health insurance cards! You will be surprised to learn that you can live longer, healthier and happier without doctors.

If you participate in our health care system, you are supporting the system and you are implicitly endorsing the system. The only way to say NO is to SAY NO! BOYCOTT THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM!!

Can you order it from India? Hate to even suggest it and I have no idea if its safe or an option but might be worth looking into it.

Might look for a country has it cheaper, fly get it and mail or carry it home. Many drugs are a fraction of their cost overseas. IP laws be damned if its a choice between living or not.

I’ve been taking red yeast rice for years instead of statins.

Much cheaper, and better.

Check out Canada. You can probably get it cheaper than your co-pay.

That increase is shocking. Look into all possible alternate sources including overseas (re-importation).
