While the Oscars routinely go political and the VMAs pull out all the shock stops, the annual Grammys telecast eschews overtly dividing moments. Assuming you don't mind musical genre mashups worth rubbernecking over.
Tonight, LL Cool J emceed another Grammys telecast aimed at the widest audience possible until rappers Macklemore and Ryan Lewis sang Same Love while 33 couples--both straight and gay--got married.
"This song is a love song not for some of us, but for all of us," said Queen Latifah who officiated the live wedding in front of a church-like setting complete a gospel choir. "Strip away the fear, underneath it's all the same love."
No matter where one stands on the issue of gay marriage, it's impossible to deny in an age of hot button issues it's among the hottest. The show's focus suddenly shifted from today's best singing stars to a soapbox complete with Madonna wearing a white ensemble from a rodeo exhibit. The fact that the sequence aired later in the show than an historic pairing of Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr also sent a message.

The 40 year old equivalent to that Same Love might be Love The One You’re. With.
It’s all about Tolerance™.
To a Conservative the word ‘tolerance’ means ‘casual indifference’.
To tolerate something means to ignore it, or at least not actively oppose it.
But to a Progressive ‘tolerance’ means ‘celebratory approval’.
To be Tolerant™ one must make it absolutely clear that one fully supports the idea in question. To be anything less than 100% approving is to risk being branded Intolerant™”. To be Intolerant™ is to risk being considered a Hater!™. And to be branded a Hater™ is a fate worse than death to a Progressive.
That’s so gay.
If the disease was spread primarily through heterosexual casual sexual encounters, they would be trying to make laws against hetero sex. They are that sick... yes.

Tolerance™ also carries a significant amount of selectiveness. My folks objected to my wearing my Utilikilt™ while visiting them up in Massachusetts (a state well-known for its Tolerance™). When I brought up that point, they said that Texas was probably more Tolerant™ about that kind of thing. I found it more than a little humorous that Massachusetts libs would ever say Texas was more tolerant about the clothes someone wears.
Where were the Incestuous Marriages and the Polygamist Marriages?
Those people love each other too. I’m not sure if they were Born that way though.
