A racially charged shooting incident in North Carolina with eerie parallels to the Trayvon Martin drama has ended in the same way with a jury refusing to hand state authorities the politically pressured charges they sought against the shooter.
In a decision angering the NAACP and other civil-rights activists clamoring for justice, a Charlotte grand jury has declined to indict Charlotte Police Officer Randall Kerrick for voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a 24-year-old black man who refused to obey orders to stop after police responded to a robbery call.

You're right. I posted before reading the story. I jumped to conclusions when reading the Trayvon comparison and NAACP involvement. This one is a tragedy. My apologies.
When I first read about this case that is what I thought. This is a tragedy, the man who was killed probably had a bad concussion and was in a hallucinatory state. The question is what are the deadly force protocols for the Char-Meck PD? In many places, Cincinnati for example, no deadly force would have been permitted in this instance.
I’m not seeing where had graduated. I did find info that he had a violent episode earlier in the day. It’s interesting that the police chief hasn’t released the toxicology report. The dash cam showed the attack on the cop. Looks open and shut to me unless you think cops need to take a beating before defending themselves.
In 1981, I suffered a severe head injury.
Due to massive internal bleeding and concussion, I was a raving lunatic and I ~attacked~ the ER crew.
Good thing they were local boys and no cops were around.
I’m not liking the outcome of this, if he truly was badly injured.
Unless you’ve had a severe head injury, you cannot imagine what it can do to you.
Thanks for the additional info marbarker1. More info can sometimes help clarify the muddy waters.
I beat the bejeezus out of the rescue crew at the scene and continued to clobber the hospital staff for 11 days.
I woke up with a Valium IV and restraints on my arms and legs they’d put there for *their* safety.
Massive brain injury can turn you quite “crazed”.
Yeah. Didn’t I just read the other day that”thug” is the new (improved?) “N-word”? Some multi-millionaire football player from seattle ranting since he has some kind of chip on his shoulder?
To me, shooting that many shots in that situation indicates the LEO was scared out of his mind and is probably not guilty, but most definitely should not be in law enforcement. That is if he actually fired a dozen shots. What kind of gun did he have anyway?
“All true except the college graduate part. He dropped out of college around his junior year.
It is sad that it happened, but it seems like he was drunk and on drugs and rushed a cop.”
Seems you’re right about the college part. I had quickly read an article talking about him playing college football, and about how his fiance is a graduate student, and I guess assumed he had graduated.
The toxicology report was released back in November. He had some alcohol in his system, but below the legal limit (it was .06, I believe). Caffeine, nicotene, but no other drugs.
Question is, would a civilian walk in this situation?
Welcome, No problem.
There is plenty of mud in this one.
That said WND sure put a frenzywhipping headline on this.
This is IMO not St. Trayvon II.
It is small white panic cop sees big black dude moving towards him.
The cop will walk on this most likely, but if it had been You or Me we would already have been convicted of Murder.
The two cases are incomparable. The author is an idiot.
The ones I’ve seen are Glock not sure if 9mm or .40
I suspect this young man was confused and frightened, and the cops shouldn’t be able to walk away from another bad shooting. That said, it shouldn’t turn into another race wars circus. Cops will kill any of us, if put into a situation that challenges their courage and intellectual skills.
I find that rather telling as well.
How could this white woman be so terrified by the mere sight of a black man an injured one at that that she couldnt contain her fright long enough to even hear out his plea for help? Come on, wrote Neil Drumming a black columnist for Salon.com.
Drumming said nothing excuses her utter lack of empathy, while failing to report that Ferrell tried to kick in her front door. The 9-1-1 tape indicates Ferrell wasnt acting like a helpless man but a ferocious threat.
Doesn't help that drive by columnists are willfully distorting the truth. Shame on them.
Sorry, you don't get a pass for life threatening behavior because you are black.
No similarities, but it’s another case the left can use to gin up a little more White Guilt.
Sorry wrong County.
CMPD use S&W 4046 pistol
The guy had just beeen in a serious car accident. Im guessing head injury.
The chief of police has not yet released the toxicology report according to the link to the article.
I'm guessing that you have beeeeen in a serious accident and hurt your conscience.
There’s quite a few differences between this case and the Martin Zimmerman encounter. The biggest is the national public relations campaign and the political connections that came into play on behalf of Martin’s family. Obama’s cameo, “If I had a son ...” was part of it.
