ROCK HILL Witnesses say a Lancaster man waved a pistol in the air after he was thrown out of a Rock Hill pizzeria and had to be tackled to the ground by patrons who wrested the weapon away from him Saturday.
At about 2 a.m., police were sent to the Empire Pizza on Old York Road after learning that York County Sheriffs deputies were looking for a man sporting a brown jacket who was allegedly wielded a gun, according to a Rock Hill police report. Witnesses at the bar told police that the man had been involved in a fight after he was thrown out of the restaurant because he was too drunk and disorderly.
Once thrown out, he pulled a pistol from his waistband and began waving it in the air, the report states. Several patrons tackled him and wrestled the pistol away from his hands. The man and his friend walked away from the area into county limits. Police could not find him.
About 40 minutes later, police learned the man and his friend were walking back to Empire Pizza, the report states. On their way back to the bar, police spotted a Highway Patrol trooper hold the two men at gunpoint. One of the men matched the description of the alleged gunman. Police placed both men in handcuffs, finding a pistol on one man. The second man, identified as Dylan Massey, 22, of Lancaster, matched the description of the gunman. He told police he did have a pistol while at Empire Pizza.
Massey was arrested and charged with pointing and presenting a firearm, carrying a pistol unlawfully and carrying a pistol on ABC licensed premises, the report states. The other man, identified as William Messer, was arrested by York County Sheriffs deputies because the Highway Patrol trooper stopped him in county limits. He is held at the York County Detention Center on a $6,000 bond.

“Journalism” today frequently fails basics from the 101 class, like “Who, What, Where, When, Why?”
Here’s one for my Bad Journalism folder.
