Are we really mad at the Coca Cola multiple language ad?

Posted on 02/05/2014 8:59:36 PM PST by chevydude26

I keep seeing on my facebook feed that apparently us conservatives are protesting coca cola or something? Is that some sort of reflection from liberals that they just assume we all had a conniption over it? I haven't seen anybody even discuss or show anger on it on freerepublic or conservative blogs. I highly doubt Rush Limbaugh has even mentioned it.

I honestly think they are making up the controversy because where is our outrage? I think this is how they view us to be racists and narrow minded and just assumed we would be angry about some ad

“Prince Al Waleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz al Saud”

OK, he owns stock in many American companies. Does that mean that he has control of the operations?
If he is the majority owner, then I might be concerned, otherwise, he is no different then any other foreign investor.

It was rather boorish and stupid.

Since they switched languages every line, nobody could understand most of the words.

Have you seen the Coke Ad?

I pulled it up in a tab and listened, didn't watch.

First they are singing America the Beautiful in languages besides our English.

So, it's not our national anthem… just a patriotic song about how beautiful our country is.

Worse yet, the ad features a gay couple holding hands and they even have a child.

Again, didn't watch.

This was broadcast to 120 million viewers without any warning about its content.

And?
Aren't there better things to be excited/passionate about than a commercial? — Things like Fast & Furious, or Benghazi, or the NSA's warantless data-collection, or the IRS's targeting? I mean it's a company trying to sell something here, if you don't agree then don't buy: simple.

If this multiculti multibillion $ fatcorp want to sing blowing in the wind in 20 different languages on our soil, I could care less.

I couldn't care less.

But Star Spangled Banner? America the Beautiful?

Wait, what do you mean Star-Spangled Banner? The commercial is only America the Beautiful… which isn't the national anthem.

To be honest, there wasn't ONE SB ad that was particularly "clever" or memorable.

I didn't get my panties in a wad over the Coke ad, because I didn't really care.

Only the next day did I realize how many people WERE outraged by it.

To each his own on their opinions of it.

Doesn't make me want to drink more Coke or less, so to me I guess the ad was just a limp failure.

It re-enforces the idea that you can come here an not learn English.

Given our school-system, you don't have to "come here" to not learn English.

I don’t get the outrage over the ad. I thought it was a bit formulaic, but it seemed to me the message was that people from around the world all loved America (aka the U.S.) so much that they all wanted to come live here. I do think the U.S. should have English as its official language, but I also think it’s good for us to learn other languages to stretch our minds and our viewpoints.

“....whether or not I can get a job in 2014.”

I hear you! We are really struggling too. I am freelancing, and I don’t mind crawling, but I’m going to have to go from a crawl to a big leap soon.

It’s just heartwarming to know that my low income will entitle me to big Obamacare subsidies, if hubby could ever get through on the site!

“An ad by Progressive has a man lit on fire.”

And when he is en flambe he speaks in Spanish: “No mas pantelones!”

There’s some deeper meaning there....

Makes about as much sense as having multiple language commentators.

That was a near perfect pass by Manning, but Thomas couldn't hold on to the ball. And now for our Spanish speaking audience - Eso fue un pase perfecto cercano por Manning, pero Thomas no pudo retener el balón

(Spanish translation by Babelfish.)

This ad was an in-your-face Obama-style punk ad. It was created to get a negative response, and maybe change the conversation from the failures of the wretched Communist at 1600 Pa. Ave. I found it abhorrent, but typical of smarmy globalist corporations. It is best to continue to focus on the bigger fish in the stream. Bob

Blowing the Bubble gum bubble was maddening, but not the singing.

I hated it and thought it was a pathetic. This is America at least for a little while longer so speak English. I don’t give a rats ass about someones ethnicity when you come to America assimilate into American culture or get the hell out.

You’re right about the buck chase. However, societally AND economically, the cost of making those ads would tremendously drop if the once-required rule about learning English to be a citizen were still enforced.

I brought my wife and son home in 1976. She was required to be able to speak English, and she was tested on it during the multiple visits she had at the immigration office. She attended local night classes for over a year (and continued on with writing and other classes after that).

It burns her pretty good to see immigrants here now that can’t even understand the most basic English (unless it is ‘government standard English’ like “Medicaid, WICs, SNAP” etc.)

I’ve yet to see the Coke ad but I was mad that the commie libs wouldn’t allow the ad about the veteran wanting to protect his family to be shown during the so called “super bowl”.

Making stupid PC ads like Coke did, makes us look like weaklings, pathetic, and useless.
Coke can take that ad and stuff it!
And all those PC advisers that sold them on producing such a stupid ad like this, can move to the counties that speak those languages, because we don't want or need them here!

No. We’re being played. And not just this cheezy stuff. It’s projection from the left trying to type-cast conservatives and TEA Party movement people as intolerant, ignorant bigots.

Bingo.

I haven’t had a carbonated drink since the early 90’s. When I gave them up and switched to unsweetened coffee I dropped 10 pounds immediately. Also haven’t had anything from a machine in the same time. I also gave up TV around then. I’m a happy, lean, toned 59 year old. I sure hope the economy doesn’t depend on me, ‘cause I ain’t buyin’.

(Got a survey on products and advertising. They paid me $6. I had not used any of the products they asked about or watched any of the shows. I didn’t even know what half of the stuff was. Six bucks is six bucks. I’ll bet they threw mine out.)
