An assistant football coach at the University of Connecticut who made a reference to Jesus in huddles has resigned, the school said.
Ernest T. Jones's resignation was effective immediately, according to a statement released Monday from UConn Athletic Communications.
"The University or the Division of Athletics will have no further comment on the matter as it is personnel related," officials said.
Jones made headlines when he said that UConn's players will understand that, "Jesus Christ should be in the center of our huddle."
The comment created a firestorm of controversy that forced President Susan Herbst to release a statement on Jan. 15.
She said all students must feel welcome and employees at the public school cannot appear to endorse any particular religion.
Jones was hired as a running back coach in January. He was also to work on player engagement, according to UConn's website.
He and new coach Bob Diaco worked together at the University of Notre Dame.
Heaven Forbid! WHOOPS!! I mentioned heaven — Christianity — religion — I deeply apologize!! NOT!!
guess we can’t talk about MLK anymore. he was a religious guy too, a reverend, if i recall.
guess we can’t alk about gandhi either, he was religious. dahli lama, can’t mention him’either. mad mo, don’t even start.
let’s’just not ban one single’person. if we’re gonna be consistent we better damn well be consistent, or that unfolds a huge potential lawsuit there that would be unwise to invite.
Wow, so that is what gets you in trouble these days.
Only decency cannot be tolerated
I would think there are enough conservatives/Christians to hire each other, produce products for each other, educate each other and the rest.
Because until we do, we lose.
I guess he should have proclaimed he was gay.
I wish we had a discussion board only on that.
so....which snotty young punk on the football roster blew him in?

Well by gum, I guess she is supposed to be ‘upset’.
Who in today’s world would expect a football coach that she hired, who had previously worked at a predominately(??) Catholic Institute of Higher Learning, would possibly be a Catholic, OR a Christian?
Would she dare even consider reprimanding, firing, chastising or whatever ANYONE who would put the word “Allah” in the statement rather than “Jesus Christ”?
I think not......
On the other hand, given today’s moods etc, the Coach may have wanted to sort of ‘check out the waters’ prior expressing himself.
At this point, any Christian or conservative can honestly and publicly question that they were fired for their sexuality. Ans should.
Just make lots of noise saying “My sexuality was why I got canned”. they when the libs say “You’re straight”, say “I was born that way. How dare you question my sexuality.?”
Ridiculous? Yup. To you and I. But that’s how libs ‘think’. And if we fail to fight on their turf, we lose.
The only religious faith allowed is religious faith in government.
Most here would rather choke than give up cable/Dish. Every time it comes up, the excuses fly. But they send their enemy 100 bucks a month to help destroy what they love without fail.
Thanks armydawg505.
Christ follower Ernest T Jones happens to be black...let's see if the Democrat party stands up for the rights of this black Christian.
UCONN went 3-9 this past season. It’s not a good time to be turning down any help.
Amen! And I agree with you that homosexuality and leftist radicalism are both religions in the truest sense of the world. They’re both comprehensive worldviews. But no separation of church and state with THEM!
What is this? The Boneyard? (The UConn Huskies fan site)?
