It’s a non-story. ATC’s have always been hired without training.
ATC’s have always had an age cap because the job is considered so stressful.
This has been known for quite a while, the push for controllers started a few years ago, the same goes for pilots. There are big time shortages of both on the Horizon, very few students learning to fly at my airport, And with rentals at $140 per hour Plus another $30 for the Instructor, it is rather expensive now. About 10K for your private when all is said and done. When I got my License it was still affordable by most. I spent 2K. And the Military is offering Huge signing bonuses for Pilots to STAY, most are leaving anyway.

I disagree. A significant number of controllers are ex-military air traffic controllers.
I know. I got an ATC job when Reagan fired the strikers. But I turned it down for a promotion and large raise not to leave the company I worked for. I did the right thing and have never regretted it. I took a golden parachute years later rather than relocate. I’ve done even better since then. As for stress. Most ATC jobs away from the huge airports are more boring than stressful.
I didn't see "openly gay" in the requirements.
I actually looking into becoming an air traffic controller when I was in college about 14 or 15 years ago. I don’t recall military or aviation experience being requirements then and I don’t think they ever have been. I think that they’ve been ‘nice to haves’ and counted towards your application but they have never been required to even apply for the job.
