"...as the technology is made available to the public..."

This technology has been out there for years. I was using one back in 1989. We had loads of laughs on Saturdays listening in on cell phone conversations between husbands in the car and wives at home yelling at him for picking up the wrong thing...going to the wrong place, etc.

The device would report the cell tower in use, the serial number and cell number of the phone being connected to.

The cops probably feared for their safety. We should be glad they got to go home safe at the end of their shifts...that’s all that matters.

It’s also a good thing dogs don’t usually carry cell phones.

It's safe as long as they're using a "paws-free" device.

I like this quote from True Detective:

“Of course I’m dangerous. I’m the police. I can do terrible things to people... with impunity.”

It was called a Curtis Electro-Devices Model ESNR-5900b ESN Reader. It sucked down 8 AA batteries real fast so it ran better on 12v plug in.

We mainly used it to get the ESN of a mobile (in car) cell phone that had no easy way to get to the transceiver. Place a call and voila! ESN on display.

The fun began when we REALLY read the manual. That thing would do a TON more. For bored Techno-Geeks who had to work on Saturdays...it was a blast.

Stingray:

This large old model is almost SEVEN years old --they're smaller now with better UI's.

The long-run aim is to make them almost the size of cell-phones.

Back in the days of scanners, you wouldn’t believe what juicy gossip we’d pick up on cops and elected officials. One local political head was talking to another big shot elected official and we learned exactly what Debbie would do and for how much for the good ol’ boys’ upcoming “hunting” weekend.

This is one in a boatload of equipment and money “granted” to the locals by hussein. LEO’s will be a major segment of his civilian army ready to turn on innocent US taxpaying citizens. There is no such thing as Andy and Barney helping little old ladies to cross the street and this new breed of bootjacks are out to “protect and serve” themselves. Many refuse to believe the US military and our local LEOs won’t turn their weapons on us but they will stand by whomever signs their paychecks and gives them the bigger toys.

Too many neat, taxpayer-funded toys for boys with too much free time on their hands.
