About the only things that are apparently safe include lettuce and grass — certain types of grass, of course.
No wonder no one gets out of life alive. Everything is gonna kill ya. If the bad foods don’t do you in, global climate change will definitely do it.
Some carry around a rabbit’s foot. How silly. Think of how much luck it broght the rabbit.
“But the question is not whether a certain diet allows you to do well for three days, but can it help you survive to be 100?”
Hmmm...my Mom lived to be 85, and I am absolutely certain she did not want to live another 15 years.
“but can it help you survive to be 100?”
Do I really want to?
Look, bucko - everybody gets it........You have swallowed hook line and sinker every study known to man that supports your unhealthy fear of people who enjoy tobacco products. We all get it - this article has nothing to do with smoking, so go peddle your paranoia somewhere, maybe somewhere that will justify the piddling amounts your handlers at the CDC and Pharma pay you to insult good people.
“The latest paper draws from Longos past research on IGF-I, including on an Ecuadorian cohort that seemed to have little cancer or diabetes susceptibility because of a genetic mutation that lowered levels of IGF-I; the members of the cohort were all less than 5-feet tall.”
Hmmm. Lets all become cancer-free runts!
“Longos findings support recommendations from several leading health agencies to consume about 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight every day in middle age. For example, a 130-pound person should eat about 45 to 50 grams of protein a day...
So at 175, I ought to eat 67 grams, or about 2 ounces to reduce my cancer risk. Frankly, I’d much rather eat like I want and die at 85, like my Mom, or 90, like my uncles.
Probably never.
Even "scientists" seem to fall for this crap.
In 1979 there was a study that found coffee drinkers "10x more likely to die from pancreatic cancer." Well ... not really. What it found was that people who already had pancreatic cancer were 10x more likely to be coffee drinkers than not. After correcting for percentage of coffee drinkers in the adult population and other factors, the effect was ... zero.
If the animal protein consumers turn out to have all died in their sleep at age 90 ... but from cancer, will that still be a worse outcome from the plant protein consumers who died at age 60 from pesticide accumulation or falls down the steps from discarded banana peels [or whatever]? Or will it be better?
This is scientific agitprop and people need to treat it with the derision it deserves.
"become"???
Yep. Lack of breathing is nearly always fatal.
"Eat what you like, and die like a man."
Glad it worked for you.
Human long distance runners on pavement may have better hearts, however, how many need new knees or hips or both?
We are seeing a reversal with many cardiologists re them recommending running.
Many are now recommending walking at a good pace once or twice a day. The suggested time, a max of an hour each 5-6 days/week in a single walk or in two walks. You should work up a sweat during the walk.
One of my best friends and FP for 3 plus decades, before he retired, over the years noticed really bad physical problems with many long distance runners. Those problems often got worse as they got addicted to the running and grew older. He became known as the doctor, who told his patients, “Don’t do that any more!” Or if you do it, do it in moderation.
He predicted the knee replacement epidemic among the men in the runners and hip replacement in the women runners. A few addicts needed both.
Probably about as scientific as the globull warming studies. RME
First they said high-fat foods would kill you. Then they said carbs killed you (diabetes). Now protein? So basically, we’re screwed no matter what we eat.
Man I’m in big trouble then. But I’m 62 and still kicking. Hard to teach and old dog new tricks.
The MEAT POLICE are going to be knocking on your door.
“if the thunder don’t get ya then the lightening will”.
Bring on the meat and cheese-— just keep the diet in a balance and don’t overdo anything. Scrooge asceticism.
If they become self absorbed and vegan narcissists, maybe they will just examine their run all day, examine their skinny navels and leave the rest of us alone.”
Your smug attitude will, no doubt, be replaced with an
attitude of a different kind when your doctor tells you to get your
affairs in order.
If you hear someone say this or agree with it or even consider it as true, this is your chance to use ridicule to stop the spread of lies.
You have to belly laugh and say “You don’t seriously believe this nonsense?”
Is the earth flat?
Is the moon made of cheese?
Is the planet warming? (temperatures for the last 19 years have been falling, that’s a TREND)
Does all life on earth depend on the sun? (as we were all taught in school, yet a complete ecosystem was found in the deepest parts of the ocean, where light from the sun has never penetrated, thriving on heat & minerals from volcanic vents
Are there 4 major human races? (Caucasian, Mongoloid, Negroid and Australoid). We were taught this in school, yet the Human Gnome Project found through DNA that we are all ONE race. Seems I read that in a very, very old book.
Oat bran good, Oat bran bad, eggs bad, eggs good, wine bad, wine good, coffee bad, coffee good, Potatoes bad, Potatoes good, sugar/fruit bad, sugar/fruit good, Soy causes cancer, Soy prevents cancer, fats/oil bad for you, fats/oil good for you, peanut butter bad for you, peanut butter good for you, beef bad for you, beef good for you, chocolate bad for you, chocolate good for you, nuts are bad for you or nuts to you, bread is bad for you, bread is good for you, corn is a waste of time, actually it is very good for you
Moderation, various types of types of food can be both good and bad.
Don’t automatically fall for every new study or finding. More likely just fitting someone’s agenda.
