Detroiters have a weird sense of humor about this stuff.
When I lived up there a top-selling t-shirt said
“Detroit: Where the Weak are Killed and Eaten”
Last one out of Detroit, make sure you flush.
And leave the fan on.
About 30 years ago I went to Detroit on business. In the morning the mainstream newspaper had a front page article on a prominent drug dealer being found dead.
On the front page they published the speculation that this was connected to his switching from selling “Whipcracker” brand heroin to “Johnny Sunshine” brand.
I marveled at the concept of heroin being a branded product in Detroit, and at the nonchalant way this was published, as if all the readers would know exactly what it meant.
I never went back to Detroit.
I'm so bad I vacation in Detroit! (that was the 80's)
Apparently heroin dealers routinely brand their product.
Here in Pittsburgh a lot of news recently about one called “Theraflu”. Has been killing a lot of people.
They have a pretty thick skin about their city being rough, decrepit and crime-ridden.
But mispronounce it’s name as “DEE-troit, and for some reason it really p*sses them off. (I know, I’m married to one)
Since I moved to SE Michigan, I learned that certain areas don't like to be called the Detroit area.
Woe to anyone who says Ann Arbor is part of Metro Detroit. A lot of people in Brighton don't like being called part of the Detroit area because so many moved away from there.
Up North, anything South of Bay City is "Detroit."
The first time I lived in the suburbs, we would venture out to the ethnic festivals and enjoy the arts etc of Detroit. Second time, we only would go down to the Eastern Market occasionally. Really missed old Detroit.
They are leaving...Im in minnesota....there are whole groups here...hookers dealers ect....just in from Detroit...its appears to be an exodus of some sort...imo
Don’t try to stop the killings in Detroit. Let them kill each other.
I live in rural North Carolina surrounded by dairy farms and woods for miles.
There are no words in the English language that can explain how much I couldn’t care less about Detroit. If all of them killed each other today, that would have absolutely no effect on my life. There is no way on earth I could care any less than I do.
Totally agree. I live in South Lyon, but I don’t tell my friends living out of state that. I tell them, “I live in the “D” b!tches.” I do work in River Rouge though. It gets pretty scary here after 6:00pm.
“Send him to...DETROIT!” -Fist full of yen.
Detroit is what one gets when democrats get everything they want!!!
I was born in Detroit — my mother got us out of there in the early sixties (and it was pretty bad then, so I can’t even imagine what it’s like now. Don’t want to really know the depths of it).
We used to say Detroit was the @sshole of Michigan and Flint was 60 miles up it.
Born in the Soo, grew up in Port Huron and went to college and worked in Detroit 1956-61. Last time I was in Detroit, not counting passing through on the interstate, was in 1999. If it hadn’t been for the “Jolly Green Giant” on Woodward Ave, I would have had absolutely no idea that I was 3 blocks from where I had worked for 3 years! I don’t think even the promise of safe conduct and unlimited coney islands from the Lafayette or American could get me back again!
I lived on Woodward Avenue. Gives you an idea, huh?
