YORK, SC -- A senior citizen was shot during a traffic stop when a police officer stopped him for expired tags and mistook his walking stick for a gun.

Mr. Canipe, a veteran of the Vietnam War, stopped his truck when signaled. Without being prompted, he then proceeded to step out of his pickup truck to see what the problem might be.

Lacking the strength to walk properly, Mr. Canipe then reached into his truck to pick up his walking stick, as he had done countless times before. But this time was different. Canipe was in the presence of a police officer. The disabled Vietnam veteran was listed in fair condition on Wednesday night.

Yeah, and I guess all the 9-12 year olds in the Middle East that carry AK’s all the time are as trained as them.

So you're saying that non-cop adult Americans are comparable in maturity, responsibility and intelligence to 9-12 year olds in the Middle East?

You sure you're on the right website?

I guess he is lucky the cop didn’t handcuff, taser, and beat him, too.

Maybe that’s why the poor old man got shot, I mean something needs to be shot.

“Have gun, will shoot”.

Yup, look the same to me, and I always jam the end of the gun into the ground when I take it out of my truck. < /sarc>

No! I’m saying that you don’t need mucho training in order to work with a full auto weapon. Stupid laws in this country punish law abiding citizens from owning full auto which is a crock of $hit.BTW,FYI , I don’t trust any LEO’s in this country since they all went Rambo. The way LEO’s have been going rogue lately because of power trips or whatever leads me to believe there are probably many 12 years olds in the Middle East that have more common sense than many law officers in this country.

Ah, my mistake. Sorry. In fact, I completely agree with you.

What I worry about most is that this is a two-part problem. The first part is, obviously, reining in the rogue LEOs who are looking to harm or kill on the slightest pretence, and thereby spread fear in the population.

But the second part is just as important - the loss of genuine peace officers. I often say I believe in that “thin blue line” because it’s true, and something people need to reflect on. We NEED good cops. We can’t throw the baby out with the bathwater here, or just “get rid of” the police. That would, literally, be suicide.

So by poisoning the minds of the people against cops generally, recovery back to a balanced and trusted police by the citizenry is made all that much harder. It’s an absolutely insidious undermining of the public trust by the Left. Evil, in fact.

A lot of low-lifes ARE cops now. When I first became a firefighter the cops we worked with - older guys who were about to retire and served in Vietnam or middle aged guys from the first Gulf War were stand up guys. Peace Officers. But about 15 years ago the new recruits started going all Barney on us. Fully half of the cops I know now I wouldn’t trust to guard a turnip.

No, it is the cops’ own actions that is turning people against them. Obama has nothing to do with this.

I thought cops were to shoot to kill. Shooting to wound is just in the movies. This guy blew it.

Right. Stay put and keep your hands still when stopped by police. If a cop feels threatened you could be blown away.

So how about if a citizen feels threatened by a cop?

Lemme guess . . . the rectal cavity wearing the uniform “felt threatened.”

What did the poor soul that almost got killed do to lash out at the cop? I say almost, because the cop shot to kill him, that he did not kill him is not for lack of trying.

Shit, breathing around a cop now can get you shot. The best thing is to avoid them like the plague. You get to celebrate more birthdays when you do that.
