Common Core emerges as potent election issue for fed-up parents

Parents across the country may hold the key to this year’s mid-term elections as they vent their anger over the implementation of a controversial education achievement measure called the Common Core State Standards Initiative.

Forty-five states and the District of Columbia have adopted the initiative in a bid, they say, to improve education standards in Math and English, and give new life to what many view as a sagging education system. Indiana recently voted to back out of Common Core.

But many parents see the initiative as a bid by the federal government to take over the education system. They are also angry over the “data mining” of students’ personal information, and say the stepped-up standards are not age-appropriate and are leading to anxiety and depression in their children.

Analysts warn the parental opposition could spill over into the November elections. …

On the video the gentleman said that Indiana is “rebranding” common core.
The lady from Freedomworks stayed on task and identified the implementation as a problem and she did mention that it was top down and compared it to Obamacare.

But she did not bring up how the standards are not improved at all, nor did she identify the specific complaints of teachers and parents.

Given the short time in the segment, she didn’t have time to go in depth.

I would wager that no matter what the issue, if the 2012 elections were held today the result would be bascially the same.

In this instance, I become a very sad American, because I have to agree with you :-)

I have heard others say they do not expect to see another Republican president in their lifetime. My personal belief is, they are right, but we shall see.

If America keeps spitting on Israel. . .we may not have a country left to have a president.

I was in my daughter’s classroom yesterday. Her teacher pulled out the “spelling test.” I was busy doing something else, so I didn’t pay much attention to what they were doing. About fifteen minutes went by, and some students started turning in their tests. At that point, the teacher came over to me and said, “Look at this. Have you ever heard of a spelling test where you don’t even have to spell the words?” Sure enough. The spelling test was multiple guess. She hates Common Core as do most of the other teachers.
