Common Core emerges as potent election issue for fed-up parents
Fox News ^ | March 29, 2014 | Ben Evansky

Parents across the country may hold the key to this year’s mid-term elections as they vent their anger over the implementation of a controversial education achievement measure called the Common Core State Standards Initiative.

Forty-five states and the District of Columbia have adopted the initiative in a bid, they say, to improve education standards in Math and English, and give new life to what many view as a sagging education system. Indiana recently voted to back out of Common Core.

But many parents see the initiative as a bid by the federal government to take over the education system. They are also angry over the “data mining” of students’ personal information, and say the stepped-up standards are not age-appropriate and are leading to anxiety and depression in their children.

Analysts warn the parental opposition could spill over into the November elections. …

“But many parents see the initiative as a bid by the federal government to take over the education system.”

They’ve already taken it over. Common Core is just the latest dumba$$ initiative to suck up more taxpayer money in the pursuit of indoctrinated children who will be less likely to resist the coming socialism.

One needs only to review the new Common Core math curriculum to see that it’s terribly flawed, and will not actually develop math skills.

Math tables are still valuable in teaching the arithmetic fundamentals on which all the subsequent math skills are based.

ABSOLUTELY!

And a whole lot easier for daily use.

“It’s the data mine stupid” Common Core is just the vehicle to show some type of relevance.

On Jimmy Swaggart’s Son Life TV Frances had a well-educated panel that really hit some home runs. One of the most informative sessions I have heard in a long time with the exception of Michelle Malkin. Louisiana is evidently having hearings on the core standards. This is a birth to grave initiative where 3rd parties have access to private info.

Probably more BS courses that go against common sense and reality with stricter retention standards to reinforce the BS over lying eyes.

You are right. What was detailed on the program was that Pearson has copped the market on the tests . . . college entrance, common core, and working on a prek and that the company is from England.

LOL but . . . .this is a sad commentary on our country. All one has to do is look at early tests for 8th graders and see how far in the tank we are.

I would wager that no matter what the issue, if the 2012 elections were held today the result would be bascially the same.

A few of the callers to the Frances Swaggart panel that I described previously were well-intentioned; however, misguided when it came to evaluating what these standards will do to our nation. It was evident that some of the callers were teaching in inner city schools and colleges and they wanted to see a more level playing field to give the less fortunate a chance. Unfortunately lowering the playing field will not even get us in the game as a nation and some of the curriculum that was exposed on the show was appalling.

Also on the Frances Swaggart show, one of the panelist said that a highly respected educator (can’t remember name) took a look at the dropped? Indiana standards that made headlines and said that they are more of the same but just guised in a different name.

What was also brought out by the panel that I have been referring to is that the English Language Arts standards are being imbedded with the rest of the curriculum. .i.e. History, Current Events, and that some of those curricula that have been “updated” and “corrected” are certainly flawed.
