Passing gas 101: What your flatulence patterns mean for your health

Passing gas: Everybody does it – and no one wants to admit it.

This embarrassing habit may seem foul, but breaking wind is simply an unavoidable byproduct of our daily digestion. In fact, the average individual can pass gas anywhere from 13 to 21 times a day.

But your gaseous patterns can actually speak volumes about your health, especially in regards to your eating habits, and they may even serve as an indication of larger digestive health issues.

“People who produce excessive amounts of gas and particularly foul smelling gas – if you’re eating a super high fiber diet, that could be part of it,” Dr. Anish Sheth, a gastroenterologist in Princeton, N.J., told FoxNews.com. “But if it’s something that’s persistent, and your significant other is noticing it, it could be a problem.”

On Johnny Carson's final show, Bette Midler was a guest. She sang "One for My Baby, and One More for the Road" and made him cry. Still remember it. Before her solo, she told this joke and broke him up laughing:

An old guy goes to his doctor.

"What seems to be the trouble?" asked the doctor.

"Doc, I"m bothered by silent gas emissions," said the old guy.

"OK," said the doctor. "I'll give your a check up. First, let's start with your hearing."

"This is why vegans and vegetarians tend to be more flatulent than their meat-eating counterparts."

So... they are the ones causing global warming.

He who denied it, supplied it.

He who smelt it, dealt it.

Well played, sir. Well played indeed.

However, one question remains......was it an SBD?

So you see, once again we realize our government is doubling down on their deceptions ... if we meat eaters eat more cows, the flatulence of cows is reduced and the number of cows is also! ... Of course the American Heart Association will have their business go up, which feeds more into the tax base! ... And the failure to achieve goals will reduce the appeal of America for illegal aliens ... and that will employ more teens to cut lawns and do handiman works that needs to be done for the money hording aging population ... Hey! We may have the best fix for the globe, by golly!

Proudly expanding my carbon footprint for over 63 years.

Of course, environmentalists don’t fart, they’re just full of shit.

Yeah, me either. It was Carl Palisca on my end.

Unadulterated nonsense. Anyone doing it that often in my home would be tossed out on their ass.

Article indicates that gas produced by "protein eaters (meat) smell worse than the gas produced by high fiber" diners, naturally!

I don't know what article you are reading, but the one provided by the LINK reads EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE.

"According to gastroenterologists, carbohydrates such as sugars, starches and fibers produce the most gas in the colon, as they do not get absorbed as completely in the small intestine. This is why vegans and vegetarians tend to be more flatulent than their meat-eating counterparts."

If your flatulence smells like roses then it most likely means you are a democrat surrounded by media members.

In 8th grade, Joey Luciano told us about lighting his farts. He told us to “watch this”, whiich is the predecessor of , “hold muh beer”.

Out came the matches, down went the pants, match lit, placed close to tush, fart let go, blast of flame and tush burns. Off to the hospital.

To this day we call him the original “Flaming A$$hole.”

Had a case of giardiasis I picked up backpacking in the desert. Generated massive amounts of flatulence so foul my wife made me sleep in the garage in winter in Colorado.

Luckily I had a winter sleeping bag.

Diagnosis was interesting, too. Swallow a capsule with cotton in it, tied to a string. Walk around all day with the end of the string hanging out of your mouth, while the capsule makes its way through the stomach and into small intestine. Go back to doc at end of day, and they pull the capsule out on the end of the string. Very strange sensation.

Passing gas: Everybody does it – and no one wants to admit it.

This article starts off with a failed premise. Me and my son take full credit for our farts and grade them on a stinky scale to win the contest.
