Its the Truvada conundrum: A drug hailed as a lifesaver for many people infected by HIV is at the heart of a rancorous debate among gay men, AIDS activists and health professionals over its potential for protecting uninfected men who engage in gay sex without using condoms.
Many doctors and activists see immense promise for such preventive use of Truvada, and are campaigning hard to raise awareness of it as a crucial step toward reducing new HIV infections, which now total about 50,000 a year in the U.S. Recent efforts range from think-tank forums and informational websites to a festive event at a New York City bar featuring popular drag queens.
Yet othersdespite mounting evidence of Truvadas effectivenesssay such efforts are reckless, tempting some condom users to abandon that layer of protection and exposing them to an array of other sexually transmitted infections aside from HIV.

If you engage in such activity, you will always get diseases. If new ones have to evolve, they will.
I say we give in to technology and eliminate eggs with the gay gene.
That 2% will be 0% in a generation.
Which is the gay gene?
Sheesh - a grand a month to protect somebody from the consequences of doing what he shouldn't be in the first place and I pick up the tab? Lovely. Gimme that good old-fashioned socialized medicine...
Or you they could save money by keeping other mens genitals away from their rectums.
Yep, darn near killed ‘um.
Medical professionals who truly care about public health should be working to eradicate homosexual practices — not facilitate.
FDRQ delenda est...
Well, wouldn’tcha know it. It ain’t the Bushes fault!
“Gonorrhea and syphilis are on the rise in the U.S., mostly in men who have sex with men, a trend the government said is linked to inadequate testing among people stymied by homophobia and limited access to health care.”
Whaddaya mean, it ain’t Bush’s fault? Of course it’s Bush’s fault! Everything is Bush’s fault. (Dear Leader told us so ).
stigmatizing “bug chasing” somehow leads men to chase bugs. Who knew???
In other words, just add a few more chambers to the revolver's cylinder, but keep on playing Russian Roulette.
Further proof that homosexuality is a mental illness.
Since they don’t reproduce, there is no gay gene and never was....which is why it can’t be genetic, why their numbers don’t increase and why they are totally dependent on predatory acts.
You know it is really absurd! Who the heck is responsible for anything anymore? If I screw up it’s not my fault, it is your fault!!!
“Whaddaya mean, it aint Bushs fault? Of course its Bushs fault! Everything is Bushs fault. (Dear Leader told us so ).”
This might be the only time it isn’t Bush’s fault.
Smokers have to pay a premium for health insurance. Do gays that engage in dangerous sex pay a higher premium?
Eggs aren’t gay!
I’ve heard that gay activists blame Reagan for the AIDS epidemic. They claim he was slow to take action as AIDS went through the homosexual community in the early to mid 80s. And Reagan was president then. So,based on the criteria of liberals, anything bad happening during a Republican administration is the fault of that president.
The activists claim that Reagan was slow to authorize funding for R & D for AIDS drugs, and that he perpetuated the stigma against homosexuality, etc.
That’s almost hilarious, but for the topic of course. So two guys screw around in San fransicko and get ( give themselves, many would say) sickness And 3000 miles away the President of the a United States of America comes in for blame? I’d like to think that, while compassionate, a president would be primarily focused on the constitutional duties of the office ( like national defense, for starters) Besides, many of the homosexuals decided to just keep exposing themselves to Aids Is it A President ‘s fault or responsibility some guys choose to, well, keep unzipping their pants in Californicate.? Whether the federal government has a proper role or not in taxing us for medical research spending is an interesting question. Whether thus spending should include funds to heal voluntarily- acquired ailments is a second interesting question. I personally say OK but many dissent.
That’s more people than are killed by guns each year.
outlaw gay “unprotected” sex....
The bug AIDS is a diabolical morphing bug. If these perverts think they will beat it by ramping up the activities that facilitated it originally...they’re crazy.
I think we have to give the Bushes a pass this time because it’s those dangerous evil people, the homophobes, that caused the spreading crabs.
>>Which is the gay gene?<<
The pink one.
Don’t many homosexuals “chase” the bug to join the HIV-positive club?
You can’t escape the wrath of God and nature when living this way. No amount of new medicine will cure the psychological problems that cause your affliction. Has any gay man ever stopped to ask why the lift expectancy of gay men is 20 years shorter than straight men? Its no mystery to me.
>>Further proof that homosexuality is a mental illness.<<
Thus the statistically significant overlay to pedophilia. Heterosexual pedophilia is so rare as to be statistically insignificant.
Male homosexual pedophilia is damn near 1:1.
You don’t get AIDS from a Bush..you get it from an Obunghole
But I’m not planning to visit any famous ChiTown bathhouses. .....
So,based on the criteria of liberals, anything bad happening during a Republican administration is the fault of that president.
...but, to be fair, that particular myopia is not limited to liberals...
While they’re engaged in this inane argument, they’re not noticing the menigitis outbreak that no condom can prevent.
“Since they dont reproduce, there is no gay gene and never was....which is why it cant be genetic, why their numbers dont increase and why they are totally dependent on predatory acts.”
I didn’t know they had a lift expectancy issue, too. I assumed too much lift was part of their problem.
