After listening to one of my favorite podcaster, Dan Carlin & his Hardcore History, about the beginning of World War I, I would love to find out more about this time in history.
I know that Freepers are a well read bunch and I am asking for any recommendations you may care to make in a good book covering this time in history.

Above would be my recommendations for a single-volume approach to the entire war. I'm just finishing a very interesting book on the events preceding the war and the diplomatic breakdown:
The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went To War In 1914 by Christopher Clark
- not, probably, what you're looking for but there's a lot of information in it I haven't found anywhere else.

Just watched for the first time the Peter O’Toole, movie and recently picked up T.E. Lawrence - Seven Pillars of Wisdom. Will be interested in the other books you recommend

YW. I thought it far superior in explaining the causes and the evolution of the war. It dealt with the land war primarily while “Castles of Steel” was a fascinating view from the naval perspective.

I read “A Naval History of WWI” by Paul G. Halpern a few months ago. Comprehensive and lots of navy speak detail. It’s amazing how much WWI naval action took place around the globe that you may have never heard of.
