For you Virginians out there. My old home. (VANITY(

With luck, I put this in the right place.

Though I was born in R.I., my parents moved to VA when I was 2. I lived in the Old Dominion for decades and even though I left there about 10 years ago, I consider it home. I practiced law in NOVA for a long time.

I stumbled across this wonderful Facebook page entitled, "Abandoned in Virginia". It is a beautiful pictorial of abandoned old buildings all across the State. Those who live, or who have lived, in VA know how special it is.

Enjoy.

If “VA” is/was so “Special” the just WHY did YOU leave and move to “CaliPorinia”?

Here is a picture of my GG grandfather’s mill in Madison County, Va. There are invoices from the Confederate government in the archives with his signature for the flour he produced from this mill.

Fascinating! My family and I have lived in Northern VA for a couple of decades. Having lived different places around the country and around the world, we love it here: Virginia is a beautiful state with much history.

On family trips we would often pass by intriguing abandoned homesteads throughout the state. I would wonder about the lives of those who lived there. As a writer, at one time I thought about researching a book that would combine photos of abandoned homes with the stories of those who settled there.

I was surprised to see that my son, who now lives and works downstate, also found and "liked" the Facebook site. Perhaps he was stirred by the memories of our family trips.

Thanks for posting!

It’s always the WEATHER don’t you know?
Never mind the state is a crap hole, but gosh I can wake up and the weather is WONDERFUL!
Guess what, if it’s too hot I go in and run the air conditioner ,if it’s too cold outside I stay in the house and turn up the heat.
Weather! vastly over rated .

I can’t wait to flee communist California and retire in Virginia, assuming Virginia does not go liberal in the meantime. It seems like NOVA is ruining Virginia at a rapid rate. Why can’t they all just live in Maryland?

Too late. Terry McAwful is now governor.
