This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Marcella,
you can also get wireless speakers that pick up the signal from a little usb plug in. So, no long cord, just a usb device plugged into the side of the laptop.

Hmm, didn’t know that - have that kind of plug for my wireless mouse.

They come in all price ranges from about 25 bucks up to over a hundred depending on the features. I also have a Toshiba laptop, and the built in speakers have always sucked. My cheapo tablets have better sound quality than my Toshiba.

I can’t find any like that on Amazon. What am I doing wrong? What should I put in search on Amazon to find those?

I typed in Wireless laptop speakers, and got 858 results on Amazon.

None of them have that separate little device to plug in usb port like the wireless mouse has, so don’t see how these speakers talk to the computer like the mouse does. All of them, of course, has a wired usb connector, then they would talk. Perhaps I’m not up to speed on the latest type connection? Like, they don’t need the separate little plug in thingy the mouse has?

Why is it that I can work for hours on my land, but 20 minutes in the backyard is too much? I think it’s the rabbit fences. They’re too short to be worth taking down every time I need to work, but too tall to be able to sit or kneel while I work. The leaning over flippin HURTS!!!

I got all my seeds planted, but only 1 more wall-o-water up. That makes a total of 4 out of 16 up. It would be easier if the hose were hooked up, but dad disconnected the spigot. And I don’t mean “turned it off at the shut-off valve”. I mean the pipe is cut and the spigot is on a shelf in the garage. He came out while I was working today and asked me if I’d ever have time to help him install a new one, I said “Sure, just give me a few minutes to finish getting these seeds in the ground.”

Less than 10 minutes later, I went to find him and get started, and he yelled at me about how it was a 3 hour job and didn’t I know he had to take Nephew to a soccer game? How could I demand such a thing?!?!

If it was a 3 hour job, why did he ask me in the first place when he knew he wouldn’t have time? And how is it my fault? I give up. He makes no sense. He is never going to make sense. I want my house finished so I can move away and never have to deal with him again.

Do you pull the whole garlic, or just the little buds then put the rest of the plant in the ground.

We spent the whole afternoon in the community garden today.
I completely forgot I need to pick up a couple of things
for dinner tomorrow, like sweet potatoes and a couple of
other things. Then fix dinner. Ham, sweet potatoes and ??

Green Beans. If you got ham you have to have some green beans. Of course when it’s Easter you might want to have deviled eggs, and that means baked beans are a good addition.LOL

A few years ago, I decided that I did not want any Deviled anything on our Easter table, so I started calling them Angel Eggs. I also started making them with a variety of ingrediants. Why not? 3 or 4 different recipe eggs on the platter. They are really a hit with our under 13yo guests.

Our child+gkids cancelled out for this weekend. I talked to his sister early Friday morning and she went off on him. “He needs to come see his Mama” in thick, lower Mississippi country accent. Let them settle it. She will give him heck about cancelling. One weekend soon, she will grab him by his ear and throw him(250lbs) into her car and bring him out, kids in tow. Gotta love her. She will keep little brother straight, one way or another. I love her dearly.

I hope you and everyone here has a blessed and very happy Easter with your families. And remember the reason for the holiday. It is the day our Lord rose from the grave after paying for my sins, and yours on a cross. Thank you Jesus!

Do you fix your green beans Southern style?

With butter, bacon, onion, chicken broth?

My wonderful wife says Southern cooks can take a perfectly harmless veg and make it into a heart attack on a plate. Yep, but they’re great! I’d rather die happy than give up everything good in life. :) YMMV

Various recipes. I lie them with ham. If I don’t have ham, I add ham base seasoning, olive oil, onions, parsley, garlic, salt and pepper. Sometimes I add in a few potato chunks.

I used to use bacon a lot, but when Hubby started watching his fat content, we quit keeping it except for a little sprinkle now and then as a condiment. I can’t eat it, because it causes my gallbladder to act up, and gives me heartburn.

Sometimes I buy a pack of bacon, and fry it up all at once, then stick it in the freezer to use for BLT sandwhich once we get some big home grown tomatoes.

Thank you for the wishes - right back at you. Our daughter moved to Kansas, and her daughter caught the train out to be with Mom. I am glad that they will be together, but of course, miss them.

Youngest Daughter and grand daughter will be here. Daugher’s oldest has 3 kids, but we hardly ever see her and the great grand kids, because she has to go see her Hubby’s parents, and her Daddy’s parents, and we won’t beat up on her, nag, complain, threaten her if she doesn’t come.

The only time we can count on seeing her for holidays is Christmas and her mother’s birthday and maybe Mother’s day.

We use a lot of bacon, but use some ham also on the eggs, various cheeses, various veggies diced up small, some sausage, just never know what next.

We have some fried bacon bits or chunks at nearly every meal, since we get the ends and bits packages. We wrap all sorts of stuff with it also. My wife make tater bites which is thin slices with bacon, green onions, sausage bits, a variety of cheeses on top like stuffed or loaded taters. Mix and match the different kinds on the same tray. I think I like the bites as much as a baker.

Wife will microwave bacon slices to keep it from shrinking or shriveling up.

Two varieties of carrot seeds went in yesterday. If anything deserves a seed tape treatment, it’s carrots.

“Marcella, don’t order any more cilantro from them.”

I won't. Will never buy cilantro plants again. I've got the seeds planted in pot outside with net over it to keep the squirrels/birds from getting the seed.

I'VE GOT PEA PODS! I know nothing about how to grow peas but want the type pods to use in a stir fry. I found that kind in three types of bush peas good for container growing. I have one pot of each to determine which one to stay with from now on. There is one pod on each of these along with blooms on each type.

All three types are small plants but beginning to produce pods. Don't know how large the plants will get but that's one of the criteria to decide which one to stick with from now on as well as how prolific each one is. The three types are: Masterpiece Pea, Snowbird Pea, Peas in a Pot.

The Peas in a Pot plant is really small and that's because the seed was in Jiffy seed starter and only one plant barely managed to sprout in it so it's behind the others in growth. Yes, I hate Jiffy seed starter - it really screwed up my wonderful, well thought out, seed sprouting schedule. :o) I have a bag and a half left of Jiffy and I should burn it just to enjoy watching it disappear - have I said I hate Jiffy? :o)
