N.B.A. Is Investigating Comments Attributed to Clippers’ Owner Donald Sterling

The N.B.A. has started an investigation into remarks attributed to the Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling after the release Friday night of an audio recording on TMZ.com in which a person TMZ identified as Sterling admonished a female friend to avoid being seen in public with black people.

Reaction around the league, whose players are predominantly African-American, was swift. The Clippers, who are in San Francisco for their first-round playoff series with the Golden State Warriors, held a team meeting late Friday, according to The Los Angeles Daily News. Magic Johnson, the former Lakers star and minority owner, said on Twitter that he would not attend a Clippers game as long as Sterling remained owner.

Surgical strike right on the NBA’s primary audience. This team may be finished.

As a Laker fan I have always hated Donald Sterling, but all this talk about “Suspending” him is ridiculous..he has every right to his beliefs, as disgraceful as they are, he has a right to have them, he doesn’t like black people, so players don’t have to play for him..the Clippers is his team he can do what he wishes..I dont remember the same outrage when Dirk Nowitski said that the holocaust never happened..if this woman had posted a picture with Michele Bachmann or Ted Cruz and Sterling had gone on an Anti GOP rant, I wonder if the same outrage would have existed

He better hope the NBA doesn’t have a “SWAT team” with “snipers”.

May I suggest hockey for his next team purchase. (No...honkey fans are not inherently racist...but he wouldn’t get as many brothers interested in watching the game.....now THAT would be taken as a racist statement)

It’s amazing to me how people smart enough to be billionaire real estate magnates and presumably keep their business interests confidential in a way that, well, anybody would...will just blather themselves stupid in social media. I mean really, after seeing the worldwide gaffes of Mel Gibson and Alec Baldwin (and Don Sterling is as Hollywood as anybody could be without being directly involved in the film biz) and seeing that anything that leaks out of your teenage-brained reactionary underpants becomes fair game...how do these folks commit such obvious, yet damaging blatherings?

I really don’t get it. It must be that their arrogance or their pure need to control another person outweighs even momentary considerations of intellect or discernment. Very odd.

hahahahahaaa.... this is so funny. Cause you just KNOW that all the owners would love to have the general fan of the club "hang out" with them in the owner's box and country club... bwwahahahahahahaha... Cause proles always hang around their masters.

Oh my this is so deliciously ironic and funny. It's almost as fun as a war between Iraq and Iran... or watching Al-Quiada, Hezzbolla, and Muslim Brotherhood blow each other up.

I'd bet the under on the game and the Clips not to cover the spread. This should be just yummy. Reminds me of Rev Jackson calling NYC "hymie-town".

Thank you. Everyone has a right to his beliefs. Honestly, the Totalitarian Thought Police seem to have made up new rules. If you don’t toe the line exactly, walk on eggshells, choose your words with care - you, too, could be hounded out of your job.

Starting to be a place I don’t much want to live. Should keep the ‘immigrants yearning to be free’ population down pretty soon. Why would you leave everything to come to a ‘Land of the PC.”??

If there is one thing I need to know about being an owner of a NBA team — I cannot go around talking about blacks. It is not like he was a rancher in the middle of nowhere. Oh wait.

That would be Holder and his new Black Shirt panther party.

Stick a fork in him.

He’s committed the unpardonable sin, unless, that is, he gets down on his knees, kisses the ring of Al Sharpton, donates hundreds of millions of dollars to the Rainbow Coalition, issues a mea culpa on prime time ESPN, and receives one month of public flogging by the editorial boards of the LA Times, NYT, and WaPo.

This team may be finished.

The owner is finished. The team may survive.

Whoever published this audio is an idiot. She could have sold it to Sterling for $50,000,000

Al Not so Sharpton is already calling for the NBA to take away his franchise.

Seriously.

There was just an update on NBA-TV: The woman on the tape is the defendant in a lawsuit by the Sterling family. She worked for the family and allegedly embezzled $1.8 Mil and has allegedly told Sterling, “I’ll get you,” or words to that effect.

Sterling has a long history of not liking black people, and that’s his right..but all Ive been hearing all day is how he should lose ownership of the Clippers and be suspended..its HIS team, he owns it..he can do what he pleases..he obviously doesn’t hate all blacks since the majority of his team IS black..if black players have a problem with him they don’t have to play for him, there are what, 30 NBA teams, many to choose from, no one is putting a gun to their head forcing them to join the Clippers.
Also, this “Girlfriend” of his is quite the character, she is known for being a gold digger and she had no right to tape record him, isn’t that illegal? You can tape someone without their consent?

I thought he said that it wasn’t that he didn’t like blacks but it was their culture.

Oh heck, what do I know, I think that the girlfriend recorded it for blackmail. She sounds sweet, poor young thing.

Did you hear, Jesse Jackson spoke out about it, he took time off of banging Tamera Holder to speak out about this because after all, he is the black people spokesperson
