Secretary of State John Kerry says people around the world have a fundamental right to the Internet. He is denouncing authoritarian governments that place restrictions on web access and social media.
Speaking from Washington to an online freedom forum in Estonia, Kerry said Monday that open and unrestricted communication helps make governments accountable. He said autocratic rulers therefore see a free, open and inclusive Internet as a threat to their power.

a service is not a right.
if it were, those providing the service would be slaves
It's a fundamental human right to hang tyrants from lampposts.

Yeah, and that’s why your boss, and Plugs, and you, all supported handing over control to the 100-125 despotate regimes around the world, right Lurch? Very nuanced of you. Thanks Olog-hai.

I’m good with it being a fundamental right. That means it should be free. You can’t charge for fundamental rights. Maybe Holder will tell Cox Cable that they have to provide my internet for free......
Democrats are okay with rape rape. They defend Planned Parenthood when it is repeatedly caught coaching minors to lie to avoid criminal investigation into the pregnancies (permitting the abusers to go on abusing). There also isn't a lot of outcry about the same sex couples who trick out their adopted sons (like the scumbag at Duke).

I don’t know, this is from the people who are bringing healthcare as a fundamental right. And that ain’t free!
It will be free to a certain group before they’re done. Just not you and me. But yeah... I agree with you.
The Internet is simply a collection of routers, switches, and communications paths made up of wires, fiber optic cable and transmitted radio waves. There’s a whole lot of infrastructure that makes it work and all of this infrastructure costs the participants money and labor (which is also money when you come right down to it).
All of it relies on electricity which is also NOT free.
If it is a RIGHT for me to get Internet, then as a right, if I cannot afford to pay for it, SOMEONE needs to provide it to me, even for free. That is where this thinking leads.
So, someone works hard to supply the labor and cash to provide something and “we” (who?—the government, the collective, the people, some dude?) can collectively take it from them.
Communism.
But people do not understand that the government had nothing to do with building the broadband networks that bring the internet to people.
