Alton Brown Makes Dog Treats That Taste Like Cat Poop [video]
Food Network Gossip ^ | May 1, 2014

In Alton Brown's latest video of his web series Cook Smart, he shares a recipe for dog treats meant to mimic the taste of cat poop.

-snip-

The trick to making them stinky is fish sauce.  Hopefully not too many people are making homemade treats for their dog, but if you are, here is the recipe.  Or you could just take a short cut and add fish sauce to store bought treats.

Our dogs will eat about anything. If I set the cat litter box down outside; they’ll find it and be right in it fishing out all the best poop piles. Today, they went down to the river with my husband and rolled in poop; rolled in what was left that they didn’t eat, that is. - I mean, why should I make dog treats that taste “like” cat poop when they eat the real thing anytime they can find it - also squirrel poop, bird poop, and any other kind of animal poop they can find. Disgusting; but natural I suppose.

Wow! Those look good enough to eat! Heck, they are iced and decorated even.

I am impressed.

Unless he can make it in the form of a “litter box” cake, this is a useless accomplishment.

I can appreciate the esthetics involved, but I don’t think that the dogs care.

“And yet we love them.”

Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!! :o) - Mine have driven me round the bend; do you want to two (huge) mutts and the crazy little kitty kat we have? - Answer quickly; I’m losing it worser every minute! - and I’m so nutty, we’ll probably acquire another stray off the side of the road while we’re out today. - The cat sleeps at the foot of our bed every night (and I’m thinking she’s plotting our demise if we don’t feed her just what she wants!) Hey! A cat can get along nicely without us. When we talk, all they hear is . . . silence. Dogs, they hear blah . blah . . blah . . blah . . Rover . . blah . . blah; at least dogs hear SOMETHING! But, still they eat POOP! Like we don’t spend an arm and a leg for decent food and dog biskits and rawhides for them.

I made this once and it was a big hit. The slightly melted tootsie rolls add a lot.

Thanks. I do know someone who makes her own dog treats and her husband is an Alton Brown fan. I see cat-poop treats in their future.

How does AB know what cat poop tastes like?

You shouldn't ask.

There are things you're better off not knowing.
