Mars hopefuls ponder life without families, favorite foods

All of the remaining candidates will be interviewed by the Mars One selection committee.

Eventually, only four will be picked for the first trip. Apparently, none of them is scared off by the idea that, because of technological and financial limitations, Mars One astronauts would probably never come home.

She could be on a one-way trip to Mars A one-way ticket to Mars

...

A reality TV concept is one way Mars One may make good on its $6 billion budget for getting the first four humans to Mars. Lansdorp hopes the unprecedented video opportunities will attract sponsors, partners and media coverage.

But since no one has ever been to Mars, the technology to fly people there and keep them alive has not been tested there, either. Lansdorp said last year that "no new inventions are needed to land humans on Mars," and the website says the "plan is built upon existing technologies available from proven suppliers." But the company will need to show that key systems involved in transportation and life support will work in untraversed territories.

Mars One announced in March that it will soon begin constructing the first of its "simulation outposts" to train selected astronauts and teams, giving them experience in an environment made to feel like a Martian home.

Zucker, 46, an emergency medicine physician in Washington, is doubtful that Mars One will deliver on the trip ... But if it does happen, she is on board. "There's no question."

...

Dan Carey, 52, another candidate, believes humans should be spreading to other planets -- but his wife is not happy about Carey taking part in the mission. The couple, married 28 years, has two college-age children.

"She's concerned that she's going to have to watch me die on television," Carey said of his wife.

Why go there? There is NOTHING there for any human to use. It's a dry, arid, empty place... much like the brains of many people I am acquainted with.

Dr. 46 years old is TOO OLD to go. She knows that.

>>send single people, duh, or couples<<

Single people, if of both sexes will become couples via coupling or recoupling.

Sending a married team could be great or it could end up with someone out the air lock.

In space, no one can hear you scream “I want a divorce!”

They all look like they are or could be lefties with Star Trek fantasies. Load ‘em up and shoot ‘em into the great beyond.

There should be a Mars Olympics to choose the 4 winners, a physical test then a trivia game show... maybe it could get some good ratings.

The gravity of Mars is not sufficient to hold a 'light' atmosphere, so Mars needs water since water vapor is the heavier of the atmospheric gases, much more so than CO2. Find a few asteroids and/or comets of size which are mostly water and direct them to the Martian surface ... that's if there are no living creatures on Mars. There is a Moon of Saturn or Jupiter (IIRC) that is a water orb, so bust a few trillion gallons off that orb and take them to Mars.
