If you think about, the homeless actually serve as the perfect scapegoat for a former American middle class slowly being driven into serfdom. Still completely mesmerized by the religion of consumerism, how is a population losing its freedom and financial well-being supposed to feel better about itself. The easy answer is to look at an even more destitute class and treat them like the “elites” treat everyone else. Like a superfluous and unfortunate outgrowth of humanity.

I work in soup kitchens when the TV cameras are there and I am running for political office or promoting one of my new movies. /s

Exactly, just as if you throw bread, the square will become quickly inundated with pigeons.

I have volunteered for short times in them. Helping people exist on the street is not helping them. They need a hand up not a hand out.

what a nice gesture....comes from the heart too which is the most important thing...

overall, these govt officials NEED the homeless, the crooks, the drugged, the drunk, the lazy, etc so they can keep push, push, push for more tax money to "help" the poor....except they want to hire a bunch of worthless liberal arts majors to "manage" the program....

more govt taxes...more govt jobs...what could possibly go wrong...

I have volunteered for short times in them.

Then you agree it is wrong to slander them and the people working them as somehow greedy and corrupt—in it for the funding— as the couple in the article have done.

Absolutely, nobody I’ve ever met was in it for the funding. Unless it was funding so they could feed or house more people.

These aren’t Al Sharpton or Jesse JacksUN type people.

Welcome to the usa, where no good deed goes unpunished.

The left needs a permanent underclass. It wants millions of people kept down and out. How dare you try to alleviate their misery!

“Unless it was funding so they could feed or house more people.”

But that is what I referred to. It doesn’t matter that the intention is to feed someone and not “profit”, it is still basically mugging someone else for the money.

Yes, many of the people are very nice and caring in intention, but unless they are boning up the $$ themselves, many are still trying to get $$ from the gov (by and large).

So, as a group even in independent kitchens which otherwise look for gov hand-outs, they would rather the vagrants come to them to justify those hand-outs from taxpayers.

Just like SpecEd in school. Get more kids designated “special” so more funds come in. (Yes, it’s true - ask my mom, who loved her job but had no illusions about what public schools were doing.)

Let me see if I got this straight.

The government is not feeding these people,

and fining anyone who tries to feed them ?

Obviously government is trying to kill these people through mass starvation.

Same ole. Same ole.

Many are funded by charity. Some are funded with tax dollars. Largely those are less expensive then the alternative of scraping the dead bodies up, dealing with the crimes, or putting them in jail.

Excellent quote. Just what I would have picked, too.

~~~ I think that if we want to see how the state and crony corporate status quo will treat everyone in the future, all you have to do is look at the current “war on the homeless.”~~~
True
Also, remember that there were no homeless during the Clinton years; the homeless were unknown until the 1980s. They were discovered solely as a cudgel to attack Reagan.
They're being squelched here because there are no homeless in Obama's Utopian State. They simply don't/won't exist.
