Monty Python reunite for first concert in nearly 35 years
Fox News ^ | 6/2/2014 | Fox News

Everybody expects the Spanish Inquisition. And as with all things Monty Python, fans need to expect the unexpected, too.

Next month the surviving Monty Python members reunite onstage for the first time in almost 35 years — and, they say, the last time ever. Fans understandably want to see the anarchic comedy troupe's classic skits. They're hoping for Spam, lumberjacks, dead parrots and of course the red-robed cardinals who burst in to proclaim: "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!"

All the remaining members, anyway.

Unfortunately, John Cleese says that due to surgery, he can no longer do “The Ministry of Silly Walks”.

Graham Chapman is dead.

At Chapman's funeral, his fellow Pythons got up and did the "Dead Parrot" over his casket, substituting the word "Chapman" for "parrot." When someone complained that this was in incredibly bad taste, they responded, "Graham was a very big fan of bad taste."

Yeah. In their last concert filmed, Chapman was out of control. Once he came out of the closet, he really went to hell in a handbag. But when in his prime, he was funny.

I liked Firesign Theater too. One day, one of my housemates in college was playing “Everything You Know Is Wrong”. When they got to the point where it’s explained that “everything you know is wrong”< I simply said, “Yes, but I know that already.”

One guy couldn’t stop laughing for the rest of the afternoon and the other just sat there with his mouth hanging open.

I had to be the one to turn the record over.

They are funny, though.

"They’ve always handled Graham’s death hilariously and with a complete lack of taste and etiquette."

And I am sure Graham would have wanted it that way :)

She probably watched Jabberwocky. There were some good movies and some not so good movies.

During my formative years, I watched their weekly show on my parent's black and white TV so I understand their humor. My parents didn't know how risque they could be and the occasional nude scenes. A shocker for a 13 year old boy. Lol.

New material or “greatest hits”?

'Troupe member Eric Idle assures fans they will get the old favorites — but they are also in for surprises.

'"I've got one or two up my sleeve that will absolutely freak people out," said Idle [...]

'"It's not five old guys on a stage doing old sketches," Idle said of the show, which has a budget of $3.5 million. He spoke by phone to The Associated Press from Seattle.

'The 15,000-seat stadium will be filled with the help of a live orchestra, film footage, special effects and Terry Gilliam's surreal animation. There will be plenty of "rude songs and rude dancing" from an ensemble of 20 singers and dancers — the approach Idle adopted during his performance at the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony.

'"Who wants to look at a bunch of old guys? Put some attractive young people onstage," said Idle, at 71 the youngest of the group. "That's my Broadway background. It's what I learned from 'Spamalot.'" [...]

'"What I've tried to do is make a sort of necklace — and we'll be the jewels. I've tried to make it segue into each other like the old Python shows used to do."'

Lol. Yes! I watched it the other day. Father’s day is coming up. I need to ask the family for the DVD.

Whenever I am in the supermarket with my wife, I put my hands up to my chest and wave them back and forth and ask her if I should get some “cheeeeessseeee.” She snickers and rolls her eyes.

Black Adder is great. Especially the reverse Christmas Carol one. Busted a gut.
