The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Feed stores can order the bags of molasses for you. It comes in 40# bags, or, maybe your feed store can order a smaller amount, ours doesn’t, but I’m glad to have the 40# because I’ve shared some with a friend, who shares with me. The molasses work on soft bellied creatures and fire ants too.

Agreed. I had best beets ever in a very dry year for the entire summer, some of which approached softball size.

Beautiful, and not a weed to be seen. Weeds often get away from me in late summer.

43 people visited our yard and garden on the 8th annual Lake of the Ozarks Master Gardener “Garden Walk.”

Three homes were on display and wife and I had planted, graded, removed leaves and mowed all over quiet cove property as one of the three.

We had donated garden plants that were put for sale. They nearly sold out which was good. All proceeds went to a scholarship fund.

I don't think I'd mind cabbage juice. My daughter definitely has something, is getting the test for that sort of thing. I'll check out the juices. I hope you can make them in a food processor which has been in my cart at amazon for about a month now. Don't have a blender either but counter space once I got it all clean I like it all cleared except for a raised tray I put my oil, sugar, stuff I need fast on and my hand mixer. Moved my stand mixer onto a table. I think you can get a juicer for that, too. Yeah you can but the attachment only does citrus, have to buy the blender for the rest.

I can look it up, was just looking at google images for agar agar. It's thicker than jello and better for you but I'm not real keen on it, tried a pandan one you just add hot water I got at the Asian market.

I have to go there and see if I can find some satay sauce, two big stores and they don't have it. I need it for a Chinese recipe I made years ago. Anyway, it seems there must be more Thai around here or there's more of that on the shelves.

My dad had diverticulitis close to the end of his life, and my step mom peeled strawberries for him. Well, anyway, two things to test out, cabbage juice and tumeric.

Thank you for the suggestions. I let a lot of fresh veggies rot so it would be good to juice the celery and carrots and peppers, things like that.

Some critter snuck in last night and ate all the small lemons from both myers trees, about 20 or so, maybe a few more. :( Other than peppers and a very few maters, our season is almost over.l

Mea cuplpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa..I like to grow vegetables, but I'm not that keen on eating them..Guess I better go juice some stuff right now.

God bless em all. My father-in-law was a B17 pilot shot down on mission 16 over east Germany. Uncle Curtiss was killed on the beach in North Africa. My grandfather never quite recovered from this event.

That's strange. I always prescribed Celebrex as a last choice for arthritic pain.

The peppers are coming along. I'll be transplanting them tomorrow.

WooHoo! Picked 3 radishes today. Last week I was lamenting on how they usually always bolt. Looks like I will get some nice ones this year. I tried 3 varieties - one a new one called early something or other. Those are coming in first. Still picking asparagus, tomatoes and peppers growing great, seeds coming up, rabbits ate all 8 broccoli plants. Was lucky to find some more today and will replant tomorrow with tomato cages around them wrapped in plastic wrap. Mosquitoes here still so bad!

I went on a Cabbage Soup Diet many years ago and lost a lot of weight. I need to try it again...

I've taken some beautiful photos of orange poppies but wanted the multi colored Shirley ones. Only ones left are some little grape ones that self seed.

Aliska, I just ordered a bunch of cottage garden seeds, and it is all your fault for bringing up Shirley poppies, which then got me all nostalgic for my blue and pink flowers..with a smattering of the white marguerite daisies, and next thing you know..I'm perusing self sowing annuals for a cottage garden...

I've been wanting to put some white picket fencing in my front yard, and I have some roses to plant, and now, I will have seed..I think I ordered way more than I needed. Plus, I ordered some that I'm not really familiar with, but the pictures sure looked pretty.

I was first prescribed Vioxx, but couldn’t take that. Since they removed Vioxx and the other one, every dr I have been to in 2 states recommends Celebrex. It helps.

I have about 15, inch long ghost peppers, and lots more blooming or starting peppers. Second season for these two plants.

I gave a few of them to a neighbor last year that said no pepper was hot enough for him any more. He thought he could eat one on his food and thought he was going to die. His wife banned him from eating any more of them. They are coming over this afternoon to visit. Hehehe, I will see if he wants to gets some of this crop when they are ready. lol

Cabbage Soup Diet. That dates you. I tried the diet for about 2 days. Couldn’t take it. Yes, it dates me, too.

Had a short but welcomed little rain today.

Boo! The ghost dog that followed me in from the garden a few weeks ago is still here. Hubby was unloading the car for me this afternoon so had his hands full when he approached the door. The door always swings closed when open but not today. He heard what sounded like a dog scratch on the door and it was pushed open. There was no wind to blow it. He said there was definitely a dog paw that pushed it open for him or to greet him. Our dogs were outside so not anywhere around. The big slobber bucket has all but abandoned his normal sleeping spot at that door. We all can’t be crazy.

Busy weekend in the garden. Did the obligatory weeding and thinning, then hilled up the taters with leaf compost from the township and bone meal. Side dressed and mulched the tomatoes, peppers and eggplant and planted four white eggplant that I finally found. Also planted two jalepeno plants since the ones I bought last month apparently are poblanos. Found this year's volunteer tomatillo plants and will move them next weekend to their spot. Planted roma green beans where the limas refused to germinate well.

Biggest disappointment was the corn patch, most of it refused to germinate. Kept what did come up, tilled the rest and replanted as hills instead of rows.
