The mother of a 12-year-old Connecticut boy has been arrested after police say her son brought a grenade to school for a show-and-tell related to 70th anniversary of D-Day
Lisa Miguel, of Stratford, was charged with risk of injury to a minor, reckless endangerment and illegal possession of an explosive.
Stratford Academy was placed on lockdown Friday. Students were sent to the back of the school. A bomb squad determined the grenade was a simulator used for training and still had the pin inside.

My first toy was a hand grenade. Dad told me it was a baseball.

Most adults who aren’t under the influence of something are smart enough not to jump off the stair ledge because their brother told them they could fly.
At the age of three, I tried to jump out of a second story window at my grandmother’s house because I thought I could fly. According to my elder sister, she saved my life, but she’s always the heroine in her stories. :)

These fools are beyond ridiculous. We know it’s a serious offense for a kid to point his finger in school as if it were a gun.
Someone else mentioned a plastic Halloween costume grenade... I guarantee you if some kid showed up with one of those the fools would go just as ballistic as they have in this case. Might even arrest his mom for that, as well.
Honestly, I think kids should push this issue to the max to reveal just what a bunch of idiotic a$$holes are running our schools; i.e., kids should do the finger gun thing, yes, but also pretend to be throwing grenades, firing artillery, etc., at classmates and teachers.
Maybe even wave around an imaginary cowboy hat like Slim Pickens riding an H-bomb, running straight at the principal while you’re doing it, screaming ‘YEE-HAW’ at the top of your lungs as you close in on him. Would that be a more serious offense than a finger-gun? Seems to me it would have to be... So the yo-yo’s will have to get together with the nation’s top law professors to figure out exactly what should be the hierarchy of punishments for a whole range of politically incorrect make believe by eight-year olds.

“Read the article and NOWHERE does an official state that the device was indeed an explosive. If it is not an explosive then none of the charges are valid. Most devices such as this INDICATE they are trainers/simulators etc.”

according to the article, simulator grenades can combust and cause injury within a 20-foot radius... if that is true, then they were right to be cautious...
It would be nice if we could count on reporters for accuracy but I wouldn’t trust a journalist to know the difference. Becuase the woman was arrested we could assume it was a simulator, not a training grenade but in todays world who knows.

Being cautious is one thing, but arresting the mother for what she thought was simply an educational show and tell historical example for D-Day is a ridiculous overreaction.
I am suspicious of why they used the term “combust” instead of explode, which is a fancy way of saying burn. Is that even a word? I have heard of combustible and combustion but don’t recall ever seeing combust.
So, if that Statement is accurate, it was a training grenade with a fuse still installed and the spoon and pin still attached or an inert grenade without a fuse with the spoon and pin re-attached (desktop conversation piece). A grenade simulator is made with a paper and cardboard housing and has a string activated fuse that disintegrates when it explodes. A grenade simulator actually has much more explosive energy than a training grenade.
This guy, now a retired USMC (3rd LAI) colonel, went on to help oust Saddam's army from Kuwait. Had he done this in a public school, he'd probably just be getting out of prison by now.

Kid approaches a wood burning stove, mom will squall, Johnny the stove is hot and will hurt you, don’t touch it. Mom will spend the next 30 years warning Johnny away from one type of stove or another.
OTOH dad will say, go ahead kid see how that works out for you. Little Johnny burns himself. Johnny will avoid touching stoves for the rest of his life and will heed dad’s warnings.
This was how dads raised kids in my day, now we see how moms raise kids. Think the nanny state is better?
