Kathleen Willey, a Democrat activist who with her husband, Ed, founded Virginians for Clinton and helped send Bill and Hillary to the White House in 1992, is blasting Hillary Clintons recent claim that she and the president left the White House in 2000 dead broke.
For her to say dead broke. I can tell you what it is to be dead broke and owing money, she told WND in an interview.
Hillary Clinton, who has walked back her claim, told ABCs Diane Sawyer she and her husband came out of the White House not only dead broke but in debt.
We had no money when we got there, and we struggled to piece together the resources for mortgages for the houses, for Chelseas education, she said. You know, it was not easy.
The Washington Posts Michelle Singletary, however, pointed out that since the Clintons left the White House, they have been paid more than $100 million over 14 years. And when they left the White House, not only was Bill Clinton guaranteed a vast pension, but Hillary Clinton was not far away from a salary as U.S. senator. The houses Hillary Clinton mentioned were multi-million dollar mansions.

Ohhh... how I would to have gone after her with that piece of information.
And they say Diane Sawyer is such an accomplished journalist. Right...
I wish I could be broke like the Clintons.
Yes, they had millions in legal bills to pay. However, they both also had great earning capacity on the day they left the White House.
And how exactly did they buy two mansions before they left the White House, if they were dead broke???
Dead broke = multi million dollars. Hell even if they just had the $145 a year salary, I would love to be that dead broke too.
$145k salary. Even in 2014 valued dollars whch is much less than 2001.
According to Hillary, at one time, she was America’s First Shopping Cart Pushing Bag Lady. Poor Hillary.
It seems to me that the media has been tough on Hillary with her book tour.
Is it possible that the media don’t want the Clintons back in the White House???
And all the “W” keys from the computer terminal keyboards in the WH. Times were hard for the Clintons. Soup kitchen and homeless shelter for them dontcha know...
They would have had an extra couple million on hand if Bill hadn't had to pay Paula Jones (and his own attorneys, of course) for beating and raping Jones in 1991.
I don’t know whether Hillary’s claim of being broke is accurate or not.
But I do know it’s quite possible. Bill and Hill incurred huge legal bills to defend themselves against the various investigations launched against them by their political enemies. Those ran into many millions of dollars, though some was paid by fundraising.
Now note that I’m not saying those investigations were not warranted. I’m merely pointing out that the “other side” was tapped into the bottomless well of government funds.
When the government goes after somebody, unless he is rich in the billionaire sense, it will eventually bankrupt him. All I’m saying is that this ability of those in control of government resources to investigate at government expense, while requiring the person under investigtion to provide legal defense at his own expense, is an awesome power and very prone to possible abuse.
Investigate a guy long enough, and he’s financially destroyed, at no cost to you.
BTW, I DO know what it is to be broke. I have at times sat by the phone willing it to ring, so I could get a job and buy dinner for my child.
Now that is broke.
We need a cartoon or photo shop pic of Hillary “dumpster diving”
Kathleen Willey, a Democrat activist who with her husband, Ed, founded Virginians for Clinton and helped send Bill and Hillary to the White House in 1992, is blasting [Hitlery]s recent claim ... Clinton, who has walked back her claim, told ABCs Diane Sawyer she and her husband came out of the White House not only dead broke but in debt. ... Washington Posts Michelle Singletary... pointed out that since the Clintons left the White House, they have been paid more than $100 million... not only was Bill Clinton guaranteed a vast pension, but Hillary Clinton was not far away from a salary as U.S. senator. Hillary has never had it easy. She was born a poor black child from Mississippi just like Navin R. Johnson ......
She was one of the poorest black children from Mississippi when she was at Wellesley.
The hard-left media, which is most of the mainstream media, definitely don't want her in the White House.
There are still the sloppy traditionalists at the NYT and Washington Post who seem to feel she deserves her four or eight years---the affirmative action idiot Eugene Robinson, premier columnist at the Post, is one example.
But the more radical Democrats, epitomized by MSNBC's Mika Brzenzki, loathe the graceless, fat-ankled old school opportunism of Hillary and Bill and will settle for nothing less than another hardcore redistributionist like Mike Malloy or especially Elizabeth Warren.
THAT is why you are seeing these ambushes by Sawyer, NPR's Terry Gross, et al.....and Mika herself has been simply frothing and clawing at Hillary for a couple weeks now on the Morning Joe show.
I remember a story - right after his presidency ended - that Bill was bragging around NYC that he had a million in his personal checking account. He enjoyed seeing his balance when he used an ATM.
So if being broke was really an issue why did they but TWO multimillion dollar houses?
I’ve been near penniless a few times myself. If I could only been a 100th as broke as ben-hillary says she was at those times, I could have lived pretty well.
I don’t claim they WERE broke, merely that they had a lot of expenses and it was possible.
I do find it appalling that a member of the political class can seriously contend that having some difficulty immediately paying for two mansions constitutes extreme financial hardship.
30 years ago I was in the condition mentioned above, where at times I quite literally didn’t have food for my family. I did some work for a lady who complained bitterly about the awful economy and the great financial hardship she was suffering.
Her definition of great financial hardship: She was only going to be able to spend one month in Europe that year, instead of her usual two.
It was a little difficult for me to summon up great sympathy.
I think it would do anybody who aspires to political power in this country to live a year or two in real financial hardship.
What our upper crust thinks of as base minimum lifestyle is wildly distorted. The guy who killed those people in Santa Barbara cited his having to drive an entry level Mercedes as an example of the social and financial humiliation he had to endure, and that justified his rampage.
If the Clintons were really broke on leaving the White House, why not rent modest digs, put Chelsea in public school, and hunker down for a year while the fees rolled in?
The answer, of course, is they think they’re ENTITLED to a lavish lifestyle.
Chappaqua is one of those “old money” towns. The prop taxes on their mansion has got to be at least $20k. Years ago while the limousine liberals who lived there pointed their fingers of self righteous indignation at the South over segregation, Jim Crow, etc. Blacks and Jews had less of a chance at joining their country clubs as the Jets have at winning a Super Bowl.
It was Juanita Broaddrick he violently raped. He just showed Paula his puny little pecker.
There’s a difference between being broke and being poor that I think a whole lot of people, especially liberals, just don’t get.
I’ve been so broke several times I couldn’t buy food for my family, but I’ve never been poor. If I had thought of myself as poor, I’d be expecting to be broke tomorrow and next year and five years from now. That never crossed my mind.
Photo shoppers get busy, where are the pix of
Hillary dumpster diving? Bill watching out for
cops behind Kentucky Fried Chicken...
For 20 years I owned a small, sturdy and cozy ranch house in an upper middle class suburb of Boston. This suburb, once pretty solidly conservative, had turned Marxist in the few years after I arrived.About ten years after I bought it my neighborhood became *very* hot and house values skyrocketed.Well, during this time a proposal was made to build a few units of "affordable" housing in a fairly small plot of open land.As you can probably guess, the locals went bat$hit."You can't do that...think of the dangers that increased traffic would cause for our children",they'd say. They were very careful not to speak their *true* minds..."think of all the unwashed minorities it will bring".
Also,if you have some free time google "Commonwealth Day School".It's a tale of the filthy racist phoniness of the brightest among us...the faculty and top administrators of Harvard University itself. In fact the student newspaper,The Harvard Crimson, did some pretty good coverage of it.The more you research this the more likely you are to puke on your keyboard.Boston Marxism at its most disgusting.
Or paste her face onto that guy walking through the flood water with a case of beer during Katrina.
everyone should cut Hillary some slack, after all she only lies when she breathes...
And all the file cabinets knocked over and the contents strewn around. They just HAD to cause trouble for the Republican who was newly elected. And it cost US, the people, for cleaning up after them.
I am broke. No house or secret service or wealthy donors.
She had no idea.
I’m pretty sure if not positive that a bunch of liberals got together and paid off their legal bills.
Distraught, Willey fled Clintons presence, only to discover that her husband had committed suicide that same afternoon.
Come on, WND, tell it like it was: Kathleen Willey was groped in the White House by Bill Clinton. And to say that her husband "committed suicide that same afternoon" is likely a bit of a stretch, too much of a coincidence when you consider that together with the whole Clinton history of multiple suspicious deaths of people who crossed paths with them.
Actually, I do believe they were in debt (due to smarmy behavior which cost them legal fees).
However, I agree with you. When someone is broke they rent a small property and work their way out of their situation. They were on the cusp of getting hundreds of thousands of pension dollars and millions from book sales. The TWO multimillion dollar properties were unseemly and an in your face move for all the little people Hillary claims she has been backing for so long.
Many news accounts from the period describe Paula Jones as charging "sexual assault" which I guess I interpret as at least being touched. But other news accounts indicate only that..
(sorry for the humor but the phrase itself indicates what a pathetic loser the guy is..)
Yes, but WHY we’re they in debt?
Wasn’t Hillary a whiz in the stock market and could magically turn her last two thin dimes into millions overnight?
There was an added psychological component to his creepy sexual misconduct. The women he abused often looked like a more attractive (idealized) version of Hillary (Gennifer Flowers, as an example) or a younger version of his mother (Paula Jones). That he would “take it out” and demand satisfaction from a woman who looked like his mother reflected truly deep-seated hatred issues that he must’ve harbored throughout his life.
Remember that his biological father, a travelling salesman, died just prior to his being born, and he probably was always angry about that (his stepfather was an abusive drunk). I think the man had a mess of serious psychological issues that should never have allowed him anywhere near a position of power, especially as a sexual predator and narcissistic sociopath.
I was working down at the Chicago Board Of Trade (CBOT) at that time. And this incident happened at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange where they traded live stock. I had a lot of friends that worked down at the Merc. Later on I worked there for about a year. What happened to her is impossible. Not damn near impossible. Impossible. She made over $100,000 on a five lot. A five lot contract is worth $50 a penny. So she was getting in and out of her position while the market was trading up and down and she was never wrong. We’re suppose to believe that she was a novice trader and could do no wrong. Please.
Allegedly her floor broker was constantly getting her in and out of her position. And if her position would have still been a winner he would take the loss and make it look as if she still had her position. At least that’s the story I heard.
Perfect description. People that messed up should never be given power. That goes for Barack Hussein Obama as well.
Thanks for the ping!
