The Battle of Athens (Tennessee) A Case Study in Grassroots Restoration of the Rule of Law
The Patriot Post ^ | 5/3/12 | Mark Alexander

Posted on 06/18/2014 2:09:43 PM PDT by Kartographer

As a direct descendent of Tennessee Patriots who were veterans of every major conflict in defense of American Liberty from the American Revolution forward, I stand in reverence of my home state’s distinguished list of Patriot sons and daughters. From 19th-century notables like Andrew Jackson*, Davy Crockett, Sam Houston, Nathan Bedford Forrest** and Sam Davis, to a long list of 20th-century Patriots headed by Alvin York, warriors from the “Volunteer State” have distinguished themselves in battle with honor and courage. Even our state’s nickname was earned in recognition of the valiant service of volunteer soldiers during the War of 1812, most notably during the Battle of New Orleans.

There was a group of lesser-known Tennessee Patriots, however, whose efforts to defend Liberty at home in 1946 were no less noble. This group of World War II veterans took up arms to restore Rule of Law in the quaint east Tennessee town of Athens (McMinn County), between Chattanooga and Knoxville. That fight became known as the Battle of Athens.

Corruption in government is not new. Violence against corruption is not new.

No one suggested it was new except you. Fact is compared to 50 or 70 years ago government at all levels have become corrupt and immorally bankrupt by a series of magnitudes.

I choose to fight with the tools the founders gave us

We're becoming more outnumbered daily, by tens of millions who entered illegally and continue to do so. This after 30+ years of American voting, begging screaming, protesting, petitioning government for relief. To the point where it's clearly undermined and compromised our future and the electoral process. All while government has aided and abetted lawlessness.

What is that tool you speak of?

” I choose to fight with the tools the founders gave us”

Not real familiar with the Bill of Rights, are you.

Yes I am. And the revisionists like to pull out 10th amendment arguments for why the South had a right to go to war against the North. To bad that the documents of the time and the founding of the confederacy said they went to war to protect slavery

Who mentioned the 10th? I was thinking of a different Amendment.

Ya don’t answer a question with a suggestion to read another persons comments.

That’s evasive and a cop-out.

Very accurate. You clearly don’t understand that somethings gnaw on a man worse than dying.

So which portion of the Bill of Rights do you think justifies treason?

Before that was a war with the state itself. The Coal Creek War in Anderson County. This was a labor war involving mining operations and prison labor to cut the miners wages. The mines of the day in the 1890's were nothing like what is known today nor the labor issues the same. The war involved the state militia as well fighting the miners.

This same small area a decade later would be the scene of two major mine disasters 9 years apart Fraterville and Cross Mountain mines. The mines within walking distance of each other.

The Battle of Athens was real and it was justified. While soldiers were fighting WW2 a corrupt group of thugs had taken over a town. The vets weren't traitors, tyrants, nor law breakers. They simply restored the local government back to the control of the citizens. It was basically the vets calling their bluff and making certain the election was in fact not tampered with.

Tennessee especially the more rural areas even up through my teenage years {I'm 57} had some local officials in small towns who would throw you under the jail especially if family wouldn't miss you just for speeding or smarting off to the deputy. Tennessee has had some serious confrontations against law abiding citizens by elected officials being owned by crime syndicates. McNairy County was one of the more popular & recent ones.

The problem in government is officials have lost the fear of the wrath of citizens. It doesn't always mean the confrontations against corrupt officials should be violent by any means. But then again no citizen should feel like they are being silenced or an official use their official powers to act against a political opponent for personal gains.

Personally I'd like to see a return of the traditional shaming of being rode out of town on a rail return.

Feel free to answer the #22 question you’ve been evading for the past two hours.

No your so called heroes took the law into their own hands, yes they one the election that they had the ballot boxes for, the entire effort proved useless as the corruption continued with new faces.

Your take on it would have been interesting had they then built a strong and lasting coalition that ended corruption. They did not. It dwindled away and is rarely even heard of.

Lemme make this so simple even you should be able to understand.

See the simple bold question with the question mark?

Why can't you answer the question in your own words, which you've been evading since yesterday?

Why can't you back up your own comment? What are you afraid of?

You’re a disingenuous individual at best. I don’t deal with people like you too well.

What is that tool you speak of for the 5th time?

Why can’t you back up your own comment in your own words?

What are you afraid of?
