Would the store owner rather that he had emptied the register instead? Probably not but to avoid being politically incorrect, just suspend the employee for doing the right thing.

The answer is that they prefer to be robbed.

All of this comes down to insurance. If the burglar is shot to maimed, the insurance company is culpable. If the employee beats up the robber, the robber sues and the insurance is culpable.

And if the employee is killed? Just hire another one I guess. No one’s fault. So I guess it’s up to the employee to determine if his life is worth more than his job.

Yes, because the money and products are insured.

If somebody gets injured, because of an employee trying to stop the robbery, the cost to settle the lawsuit would be in the tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars.

BTW, it’s the same reason stores won’t let you in after the posted closure no matter how much you beg.

The insurance company.

Or if a bystander gets injured while the employee(s) are trying to hold down the criminal, the business is culpable.

Go to work where someone allows you to be armed. Simple.

But if the insurance company won’t pay, the store is left cold.

He’d be a thirteen year old patriot, going off to ‘Nam.

waving a knife in a man’s face is good enough reason to shoot to kill in my opinion. You’re doing society a favor at that point. Like picking up some trash on the street and putting it where it belongs. Of course, opinions are different on the east coast.

Nam ended in 75. If he’s 58, he would have been 18 in 1974. He could have gone in 73 if he lied about his age, or volunteered, or if his birthday lined up right, so he could have been on the ground there for a year easily, though it would have had to be right at the end.

Now that he’s made the papers, he’s gonna be checked out by somebody, I’m sure. Maybe he’s legit. He could have been on the Mayaguez mission in 1975.

Stores can write all the rules they wish. Anyone working a walk in store especially at night unarmed is crazy. I worked one for about a year. I had third shift in a not so traveled neighborhood. If I had been shot a next customer may have been an hour or more walking in and finding me. I carried. My boss carrier. My bosses son who worked there carried. The company policy was don't carry. We worked alone. The only thing I had going for me besides carrying was giving Cops free coffee to keep them coming in several times a night.

The guy working at a bigger daytime store across the road wasn't so lucky. A guy came in one morning to rob the store and he died unarmed unable to defend himself.

Did you have sufficient bullet proof barriers between you and the customer? It has to be tough working in those places.

I knew one guy who dropped out our junior year of high school. He was probably 17 at the most. I do remember he was driving though. He enlisted in the Navy as soon as he quit school. I graduated the next year and that fall joined the Navy. Guess who I saw when I got to my ship? LOL. I was 19 when I enlisted in 1976.

Nope no protection at all. The store was wide open the cash register was in the middle of the store. It was a former 7/11 store. That was in about 1987 or so. A few years back that same neighborhood was the scene of the worse carjacking/double murder/torture/rape in the cities history. My nephew worked in that neighborhood up till a few months ago. When he had car trouble getting off at night I'd go get him. I carried my larger caliber firearm for those trips. Law or no laws company rules or no rules no one is going to protect you when it comes down to it but yourself. My policy in such situations? Shut up and carry.
