The United States is a majorly Christian nation

But this map, first seen on Mark J Perry's Twitter, answers the burning question of what faiths come in second place in each state.

second most popular religion map

Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies

Based on data from Association of Statisticians of American Religious Bodies, which contributes to the religious portion of the census each decade, the map displays colors for various religions.

As you can see, the Northeast gravitates toward Judaism, while Buddhism engulfs the entire West coast. Twenty states across Middle America and the South practice Islam, making it the largest non-Christian religion in the country. But one following sticks out — Baha'i in South Carolina.

Don’t know about Rhode Island, but here in AZ, Intel has a big plant in Chandler. Lots of Indian engineer/programmer types.

ISLAM ISN’T EVEN ON THE RADAR IN NC.”

Well other places are making up for it. New York has 257 mosques, California has 246 and Texas has 168. But if you add all the mosques in Texas together with the Islamic places of worship in our state, it is pushing 300. Texas may be a big state but that is 300 too many places.

Some people say we need to convert islamics to christianity, heck I would be happy to convert them to ANYTHING ELSE....

Well except maybe secular liberalism

Heck convert them to Ba’hai’ism or however you spell it.

"I think the researches LUMP LDS and Christianity together."

Yup. Had a pollster one time ask if I was: a) an Evangelical, or b) a Born-again Christian.
Talk about just not understanding the basics.

Any group that is persecuted by islam automatically gets a + sign next to it in my book.

I’m not saying they aren’t here, as I have seen one or two women... but not in percentages big enough to be more than 5-10% of church going population (even if behind closed doors) to rival southern baptists, presbyterians, episcipalans, pentecostals, or catholics.

I was surprised to see Islam #2 in 20 states, but I would like to see it as percent of population per state.

I’ve seen more mosques in SC....now maybe I’m not as up to date as most, but Wikipedia 2014 doesn’t even give them a percentage if you look at the link.

And if we research other states, I’m sure most (not all) would register very similar....someone is pushing this Muslem agenda on that map.

I’m not sure where percentages come from either. Regardless of that, one mosque or muslim worship center anywhere in the U.S. is one too many.

Interesting that the virus that affects pigs and hence a disruption in our pork supply appeared as Muslim worship centers are on the increase.

I think they are lumping Black Muslims (Nation of Islam) in with Sunni and Shia.

Last I heard, Sunni and Shia don’t consider NOI as actual Muslims.

But if the winds blow in a certain direction.....

RE: What about Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons?

As I posted above, any group that has a smattering of belief in Jesus Christ (regardless of whether they hold to the orthodox Christian view of His deity or not ) is lumped together by the researchers as “Christian”.

That’s why they don’t include non-Mormons as the largest “religion” next to Mormonism in Utah.
