Fear of the dentist can make people do strange things to avoid having their teeth checked including inventing a story that you have been kidnapped, as one boy in France did recently. Police spent a month investigating his tale.
The dentist is never the favourite place for children but some youngsters will go to greater lengths than others to avoid having to see one, it seems.
One 12-year-old boy in a village in the Alpine village St Gervais even went as far as telling police he had been kidnapped so he wouldnt have to see the tooth doctor, French paper Midi Libre reported.
The youngster was picked up by police, who spotted him hiding, as they patrolled through the village during the afternoon of May 21.
When quizzed by police the youngster immediately said he had been abducted from the nearby town of Bagnols.
He even gave the officers a detailed description of the man who had abducted him "European looking, aged in his thirties, of muscular build with a height of around 1.70 and a vertical scar on his right cheek".
The kidnapper was also wearing a black shirt and light jeans according to the boy. Police quickly drew up an e-fit image of the alleged abductor.
The young boy was also able to hand over details of the car he was driving and of course what happened during the abduction.
He told officers he was going to his dental appointment when a man pulled up to ask directions. After a brief exchange the boy said he was forced into the mans car, before he sped off.
He then told police he managed to escape by chance when the car stopped in Saint Gervais.
Naturally the police treated the case seriously and spent the last month investigating. It was only after trawling through CCTV images from the town of Bagnols that detectives realised something wasnt quite right.
Under further questioning the boy admitted this week that he had invented the whole story because he had been afraid to go to his appointment at the dentist.
In fairness he's probably not the only youngster to invent a story to avoid having to have their teeth checked.
Damn! That kid is Committed! He does not like the Dentist.
Trying to find fault with what the kid did, but I just can’t seem to be able to...
Completely understandable... broke two front teeth around the age of 12. Spent many miserable hours in dentist chairs for a while.
Très bien!
I don’t condone this but I understand it. kind of like wife-beating
Now not only is the kid gonna have to see the dentist, he’s gonna have to visit the proctologist, too.
Sounds like something I’d do.
