A preservative used to cure bacon is being tested as poison for the nation's estimated 5 million feral hogs.

Descendants of both escaped domestic pigs and imported Eurasian boars, the swine cost the U.S. about $1.5 billion a year -- including $800 million in damage to farms nationwide.

It says further in the article that hunting and trapping won't do the trick. It would if the authorities would not put so many restrictions on pig hunters.

So the meat would already be preserved? Sweet!

I’ve always heard that lead is a good poison if guys were allowed to apply it properly ;-)

pig meat kills people
and now
people kill pigs

what goes around comes around

(and we can dispose of the carcasses dropping them from drones flying over certain enemy territories...)

Hold that dang horse, missy.

If I kill a feral pig, I'll dispose of the carcass in my own time honored way. It involves Instacure #1, and a smokehouse, followed by freezing, and later consumption.

My thoughts exactly. Truth be known though I have developed an allergy to nitrates and nitrites. I now have to buy preserved meats from Whole Foods and pay the premium. But they preserve with NaCl like it oughtta be.

“Who says pig meat kills people?”

Pretty sure Moochelle or Bloomberg will say something about it sooner, rather than later.

What are you, a Muslim? How can you say that bacon “sux,” as you so elegantly put it?

The best thing about bacon is the feral hog poison. I thought everyone but The Moocher and Prince Charles knew this.

Well when the hogs get too big the meat is inedible, unless you are starving. The best way to hunt them is to trap them when the pigs are young. Best meat.

I don't take anything over 80 lbs. (I can't handle more than that alone).

I'm pretty well versed in taking, prepping and eating feral pigs.

Corn fed pigs.

I did quit wadiing into pig traps with just a knife and a smile, though. I'm happy with a .22lr to the head first.

When they start getting thick I have my buddies bring their kids and grandkids out for a week end of hog hunting. I’ll take a few small ones and cook them on the grill, those kid’s have a blast. 2 years ago a little lady about 65 lbs took a 365 lb boar with a 22 Hornet, right in the ear.
