How Did Earth Avoid Runaway Global Warming In The Past?
Science 2.0 ^ | 6/11/2014 | News Staff

There have been times in our geological history when CO2 levels were 10X what they are today, yet warming was only slightly higher.

Unlike what you often read in simplistic media accounts, there are a lot of variables in climate and weather and temperature. It takes a lot of things going wrong to turn Earth into Venus and we have never come close.

At the Goldschmidt geochemistry conference in Sacramento, geochemists discussed one such period, but they say we just got lucky - a vast mountain range formed in the middle of the ancient supercontinent, Pangea.

Real question is: What ended the last ice age?

Well, the liberals, socialists and communists, would say there was far fewer people at that time, that were exhaling all that CO2, so their solution, is to kill off 2/3 of the earth's population. Wouldn't it be nice if they would gloriously and wonderfully begin that population reduction, and deprive us of their presence, by offing themselves?

All we can say for sure is that ocean currents changed and it was not due to a build up of global warming gases. Therefore there is far more complexity in climate change than just greenhouse gases. Simple answers seldom work for complex problems. In spite of extreme political pressure, scientists are still asking questions. It’s as if they didn’t know the “science is settled”.

Real question is: What ended the last ice age?

Orbital mechanics and long term solar cycles, and it did not have a damn thing to do with CO2 levels. CO2 was at a low level during the ice age as the ocean is where most CO2 lives. When the ocean is cold it can hold more CO2. When the ocean is warmer it can hold less CO2. This is very basic chemistry. Take two bottles of Coke, and put one in the refrigerator and the other your car on a sunny day. Open them both and the hot one will bubble and spill out bubbles of CO2 and the cold one will mildly fizz. It is that simple. CO2 levels are a function of the warmth of the ocean.

I remember in the late 1950s my JrHi teacher told us that a squirrel could go from New York to the Mississippi river without ever touching the ground.

From the Mississippi to the Rockies it was prairie.

Lightning strikes in NY and IA, then, could cause wild fires that would burn the entire eastern half of the US. And nothing to stop it.

Never mind the steppes in Russia. Not sure about Africa.

I’m guessing all that biomass being converted to CO2 beats our cattle flatulance and auto exhaust all to hell.

My Dad’s approach to environmentalism works for me. “Clean up your own messes and make sure the other guy does the same.” “Never shoot a song bird and only kill animals for their meat.”

I am waiting for some climate scientist to publish a paper on what the optimum climate is for our biosphere. The first question that would naturally flow would be where is our current trend in relation to this finding.

That nobody seems interested in this vital comparison indicates that the climate is being studied for other purposes. Since all the urgent demands that flow from today’s climate science all converge on policy solutions that involve statism, bigger government, higher taxes, less personal liberty, the bigger picture tells me all that I need to know about “climate science”. It is socialism and Gaia worship by other means.

I am also curious about how deep the ice got during the last serveral periods of glaciation of the northern hemisphere, but that is a question for another time.

I find it interesting how often scientists refer to luck in their explanations of things they don’t understand.

But it is different now, never has there been a creature extant upon the earth as evil as the European Christian male.

I like that one. Who wants to be the first one to volunteer for the “tape” experiment? After the volunteers run out, they will go around selecting the next group of “patriots” who are willing to take one for the team. Something tells me, they will not be too successful, against a well armed citizenry. Ergo, a major gun grab will be necessary. Good luck with that.

The earth has been completely frozen twice in it’s history, then warmed somehow. This is where the idea of CO2 warming the planet came from.

The Indians set more fires than lightning, I suspect, to improve hunting. They extended bison to the east coast.
