These Photoshopped Portraits Show How People Define Beauty In 19 Different Countries

In an effort to get a glimpse of how the world thinks about beauty, the journalist Esther Honig sent out a photo of herself to graphic designers in more than 20 countries.

Their task: to edit the photo to make Honig look "beautiful" — however the designer defined the term.

The results are telling. Each photo represents the personal and cultural beauty standards of the designer, with the American editor giving Honig bright blue eyes and long hair, and the Israeli designer darkening her eyes and skin.

personally, i like Serbia’s best... i would wear that eye make up and lip color... minus the blush... heavy eye and pale lip with no blush is a French style of make-up application... it’s my favorite, along with the nude look... wearing make-up, but looking natural—like you aren’t wearing any...

My idiot sister wore more damned makeup that Tammy Faye Baker every single and then before my dad’s funeral about 15 years ago, I saw her without makeup... Her skin was literally destroyed by it...

I had already been a minimalist concerning such things, but it was right then and there I swore off ever wearing makuop again unless it was for a special event and even then I resolved to only do absolute bare minimal makeup and that is to only use it to minimize zits and blemishes.

In the US, artists tend to be in the middle sexually, meaning they tend themselves to be sort of vague.

Anyway, I found it interesting that the Asian designers seemed most likely to appreciate her beauty as it is. Argentina cracked me up because she looks like half the women in my parish. That's evidently a VERY standard look for Hispanic ladies!

Correctamundo. Eyebrows make or break the face. Hairy bushy brows reminds us of eastern European girls with more body hair than a brown bear. Shaved and penciled in brows are also ridiculous.

I think Bulgaria, Morocco and Serbia did the best jobs. Some of them, like Greece and the US, made her look like she had a ton of makeup on.
