Musk ox invasion keeps Nome wildlife managers busy
Anchorage Daily News ^ | comJuly 2, 2014 | SEAN DOOGAN

Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.

Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

You’re not dumb. Obviously.

I had Credentials, like a National Merit Scholarship, long before I met DP, so he knew I wasn’t dumb. The question was whether he was ... but as it turned out, he wasn’t. He just hadn’t exerted himself all that much, until he had a reason. Then he got a Masters in Electrical Engineering and all.

..."bear urine bought online"

I know zip nada nothing about this thread, and the closest I've been to Alaska is owning a beauteous Keeshond girl who should and could have been a cheerleader for the Iditarod. Male dogs fell at her feet, literally.

Does that make me an honorary Alaskan? Does it matter?

Does anybody know what this thread is about? Know what time it is? Really care?

This thread is about being the Undead Thread, a peripatetic FR social event of more than a decade’s duration. Jump in, or don’t. We’re talking about license plates right now. And maybe dogs. That might be another thread.

Whatever. Wine in the library, set a spell. Or don’t.

"Does anybody know what this thread is about? Know what time it is? Really care?"

Tax-chick used to know what the thread was about, but that was ten years ago.

Since then we've mostly been trying to find "the topic".

This is the current incarnation of The Undead Thread.

The zombies ate the shower curtains, so maybe they got the Topic, too. What difference, at this point, does it make? I’ll get to the Super K-Mart for more shower curtains eventually. It’s actually between here and the mechanic whom I trust can bring the Silver Bullet up to state standard.

Our other choice is driving it illegally for five years until it’s an official Classic Car and exempt from inspection ... but I’ll have to pay my uncle to keep it licensed and insured in Texas.

When we were stationed in Germany, there was AFN Radio, and German TV. SO we had a closet full of games and puzzles, just to help us keep our sanity.

Stateside was different, of course!

Lucky YOU! You don't need to know zip nada nothing about this thread to post and "belong." We accept all strays, ne'er-do-wells, wannabes, and just plain folks, so if you want, one or more of us can add you to a ping list.

It's a VERY LOW ping list, so you may get one a month. Maybe two if I can remember the mid-month ping.

But welcome aboard! The Flying Castle is always looking for fresh meat new cast members. ;o]

You don’t need to worry about those other alternatives just yet.

All you’ve needed all along is a competent, trustworthy mechanic.

Those, of course, are the real classics, and rara aves as well.

I am off for the night. Still not feeling all that well, but I feel the need to lie down.

See all y’all tomorrow!

It’s not that special of a car, in the big picture. Very special in the small picture, of course.

A guy with general auto electrical competence should be able to make the brake lights work long enough to pass inspection ... especially if his shop does inspections!

Well, we could always maneuver it into the Church of Bob. Never know when enough folks might show up that we could need it.

I can always summon up a sermon.

My neighbor thinks he’s competition. Hah. He doesn’t even have a prayer.

You're sayin' he's an atheist?

Anyone need a loan???

Unfortunately, the loaner is strangely unavailable at the moment...
