The Reign Of Windows At Work 'Is Coming To An End' And Macs Are Rising Fast
Business Insider ^ | 07/05/2014 | Julie Bort

It's been clear for some time that the iPad has taken the enterprise by storm as employees tote it to work and companies buy fleets of them. But Apple's PC, the Mac, has never been as dominant in the workplace, until now, according to new research from long-time Microsoft rival, VMware.

VMware queried 376 IT professionals and found that they are increasingly being asked to buy and/or support Macs in the enterprise by employees who want Macs, not Windows machines.

"Microsoft Windows has dominated enterprise desktops for close to three decades but it appears its reign is coming to an end. As BYOPC ["Bring Your Own PC"] and BYOD [Bring Your Own Device] continue to transform the enterprise, Macs have become a popular and preferred option compared to Windows PCs," says Erik Frieberg, VP of Marketing, End-User Computing, VMware, in the report.

Wow! An entire reply of ad hominem attacks. Typical. You certainly did not indicate anything was physically wrong about removing the disk that would have ALSO required a tech’s intervention on any other platform. YOU implied it was purely a failing of Apple’s choice to not include a physical eject button, not an actual hardware failure. Then you attack me for providing the multiple alternatives Apple provides to eject a non-cooperative disk. Sheesh! The only “condescending” one on here is YOU, Lx. You are the one throwing smarmy, insulting comments about those of us who choose to use Apple products and those products, yet you base your complete experience on myth, outdated information, and abysmal ignorance. Your mind IS closed.

I would expect a genius to figure out that the normal floppy tricks didn't work but I guess your not a genius and when did I include an ad hominid attack? Tthe fact that you would recommend an Apple product? You can be counted on to boost Apple products no matter the subject, such a fan boy; do you have a Google alert when your name comes up when an Apple comes up. What a maroon.

My gosh, another one. . . you can’t help your self, can you. Every sentence you write to me is an attack on me and by extension all Apple users. You simply drip derision and superiority in your attitude because you “know better” than us Apple using “maroons!” Your behavior is that of the typical Troll.

You might want to re-read your posting to get an accurate definition of derision. Did I say a Mac was an inferior computer? No, I said that I have never been presented with a business case to support Macs.

You’re religion is clearly a Mac.

Where did I attack Mac users?

You, have a serious case of Dunning-Kruger.

Perhaps it would do you well to look up what ad hominem actually means. Especially when the argument it true.

Second, I love how the Mac bully becomes all whinny when his precious device is questioned.

Passive aggressive and whiny. Al least you can now attempt to use ad hominem.

Aaaand, I counted your posts (before this thread, date 3-6 to 4-29 and out of 346 posts, 166 of yours were about the love of your life, your Mac.

But you're just comparing the two, get outta here, you love your MAC more than you love your domestic partner, that is if you have one. Ever have a friend (in your case not likely) that constantly harps on some subject and won't ever shut up about it, that person is you.

Look Lx, I've taught logic. . . I have no need to look up ad hominem to learn its meaning. I've also judged debate tournaments. I know logical error when I see it.

I have never attacked you personally. I've questioned the state of your knowledge about Macs, but pointed out you can learn. That's all. You are the one who has been using ad hominem in your posts on here.

Where did you attack Mac users? In almost every post you wrote in this thread. You came in swinging with a chip on your shoulder.

You are the one who does not understand what ad hominem attacks are. . . you use ad hominem attacks when you use phrases such as:

Yet you claim you haven't used ad hominems? Wow. Lx, except for the first five which were directed at Mac users in general, EVERY ONE OF THOSE smarmy, snarky ad hominem comments, which are sprinkled throughout your every comment on this thread, (except when you were discussing cars with TXnMA, and even then you dropped in a few, were ad hominem attacks on Mac users), the rest were personally directed to me and are intended to insult me, denigrate me, belittle me, to make other thread readers question my maturity, veracity, sanity, and ultimately discount what I post. They are not in any way germane to the topic at hand, and intended to belittle the person: ergo, they are classic "ad hominem," an attack to the man, not the facts or the logic.

These deliberately snide personal attacks and insults directed to me are apparently intended to make me look smaller and weaker than you, but they have the opposite effect. They weaken your position. Lx, you didn't just attack me, you used ad hominem attacks against EVERYONE who disagreed with you. Everyone. Look back, you'll see I'm right. You always go for the jugular. Look at your responses to Coon2000. TXnMA. If they disagreed with the wisdom of you, they were suddenly "fanboys" and "clueless hipsters" who you have "little regard for" in your superior position as a Windows' IT GOD!

As to your little research project on me, perhaps you noticed that I post on Apple threads because I have been asked to do so by over 570 of your fellow Freepers to do so. Perhaps you may have also noticed I maintain the Apple/Mac/iPhone/iPad/iOS Ping list on FreeRepublic of those 570 plus of your fellow Freepers who ARE interested in those topics. That means I post on those subjects. . . and you will therefore find me on those topics. What a surprise. They have asked me to provide accurate information when false information is posted and many members of the ping list regularly thank me for my efforts in responding to mis-information like that which you have posted. I take the requests of 570 Freepers far more importantly than your negative FUD attitude.

You do not know me at all. I lead a full life, have many aspects to my life far beyond the few minutes I spend on FreeRepublic. You know nothing about my relationships, my family. You've ignored the truthful bio snippets I've revealed on here in your rush to denigrate me. You insult me to try and win a few points in a debate. Sad. How very Liberal of you. You apparently cannot stand being challenged by someone with experiential and authoritative factual data. If there's a bully here, it seems to be you. . . and you position in your vaunted IT department dictating everyone must kowtow to the great god of Windows. You are pathetic.

You are simply outnumbered in this equation. Just this thread alone has resulted in two more Freepers requesting to be added to the Ping list. . . and they do not agree with you.

Frankly, Lx, Mac users are damned tired of seeing the same old crap like that which you posted time after time, year after year, when most of us know it simply is not true. Most of us are fully versed in Windows. We are almost all ex-Windows users who just do not want to do that any more! We've used them at work. We've owned them. We chose to no longer put up with them. We do not need to be told how stupid we are in the choice of computer we've made by people like you who do not use a Mac. We do not need the insults, being called "cultists," by a majority of bigoted people, yes, bigoted, who are stuck with machines we chose to throw out of our lives in a conscious, well considered, intelligent decision. We've had years of it. We are damn well tired of it! Stop! It is not your job to save us from ourselves. GIVE IT A REST!

Ohh, target locked and hit.

You mistake humor for maliciousness and the reason is that, in effect, I'm (in your eyes) attacking your religion (not to mention that I'm in your head). Not only that, but every person who uses a MAC. Does your thin skin make you more susceptible to skin cancer?

It's a computer, not a lifestyle, you say I'm attacking those poor MAC users who must be crushed inside to hear such words.

EVERY ONE OF THOSE smarmy, snarky ad hominem comments, which are sprinkled throughout your every comment on this thread, Are meant to be humerous, unless your lifestyle is so wrapped up in the brand of computer you use that you take it as a personal attack, poor you. You must seriously lack the humor gene. Not to mention that you missed the fact that you did the very same thing, and poorly.

How much time did you spend writing your screed?

And speaking of ad hominim, didn't you do the same thing to TXnMA when you belittled his Barracuda project, pot, meet, whiny kettle

I resort to belittling you because your religion (MAC) makes Scientology look normal and you keep missing the point that if upper-management wanted us to support MACs, we would do it with no problem, plus I would enjoy it.

"...little regard for" in your superior position as a Windows' IT GOD!

Oh, by the way, I'm a network IT god including whatever devices I have to support.

Now go get your shine box.

Are meant to be humerous, unless your lifestyle is so wrapped up in the brand of computer you use that you take it as a personal attack, poor you. You must seriously lack the humor gene. Not to mention that you missed the fact that you did the very same thing, and poorly.

Now, when you see your words laid out before you in their stark ugliness, you try to backtrack and claim you meant them in jest? And then you claim it's MY error for misunderstanding your hidden humorous intent? No way! Not acceptable.

You don't get it. No, Lx, we no longer find it humorous. Not a bit after YEARS of hearing it. Repeated ad nauseum. It long ago lost even a little bit of humor. Mean spirited, nasty comments are NOT funny. You are not funny. It's the humor of an adolescent pissing in the punch bowl. You come across with all the humor of a skunk at a picnic. It's trite and way over used. Yes, our sense of humor about being insulted, belittled, called names, and treated as if we are stupid has long ago reached the point of non-existence. I would not allow my children to watch the insult humor sitcoms. Too bad your parents allowed you to watch them. You learned bad behavior was the norm. You think you can get away with juvenile behavior because of Internet anonymity. Try it face-to-face sometime.

Your approach is especially egregious when you, speaking ex cathedra, claim superior expertise and knowledge in the subject matter, bad mouth the useability of a computer platform in business, then you show your level of experience with what you're denigrating is at least ten years out of date, but then continue bad mouthing people who are expertly working contemporaneously cross networking these computers in business, and demonstrate that expertise.

Lx, some of us have been CIOs. (Hell I've been a CEO and President of a couple of corporations and founder of two non-profit charities. What's your CV look like?) That's what my company does for businesses who can't afford a full time CIO. I provide the IT services my clients need. . . and you have the gall to tell me to "Now go get your shine box?" (Is that more of your trademark innocent humor?) Frankly, you come across as a low level IT grunt. (Yes, that's an ad hominem attack, but it's what you've earned, at this point.)

You are the smaller, nastier person for continuing to misbehave, acting so idiotically, insultingly superior. . . You have been told by others you are belittling yourself with your attitude!

And speaking of ad hominim, didn't you do the same thing to TXnMA when you belittled his Barracuda project, pot, meet, whiny kettle

No, Lx, I did not attack TXnMA's Barracuda project, nor yours on your car. I have nothing but respect for both your and TXnMA's restoration efforts on classic automobiles. So, Lx, I don't accept the "pot" title. Send your "pot/kettle" accusation and nastiness to DennisW on that. You generally won't find me using ad hominem attacks. I will disparage and disagree with your opinion, but not attack you personally. You, on the other hand jump immediately to attack people. . . Attacking everyone who disagrees with you.

How much time did you spend writing your screed?

How long? Not long at all, Lx. I'm a published author. I've been a publisher and an editor. (More for my CV.) Writing is second nature to me. You're not worth much of my time. Call it ten minutes.

As I've observed before, your mind is closed. Heaven forbid you should have an opinion not spoon fed to you by your exalted leader, your infallible "CIO."

If your religion computer was so great, why isn't the world beating a path to its door?

You whine like a little girl, it's a computer, not a heart lung machine machine but to listen to you, it saves lives, reduces global warming and replenishes the oil supply.

You seem awfully intertwined with a computer, my estimate of your Dunning Kruger was off by magnitudes.

I guess when you imagine that you're on the right side of history, the ad hominem attack against TXnMA was justified. Stop whining, use your computer and again, stop with the little girl whining. I bet it took you an hour to write your screed; me, five minutes. Why?, I don't care.

Go evangelize somewhere else. Does your domestic partner have to put up with this on a daily basis?

If you typically buy “higher-grade/upper-level machines”, then you are doing what a lot of Apple/Mac buyers are doing - seeking better hardware - its not always the OS that is the first attraction.

Apple tends towards being a bit more picky on what hardware they use in their machines... and it pays off in longer average time in service.

Compliments change nothing, IT departments exist to advance IT department personnel and bottom line, of local PC crackerbox manufacturers.

If IT departments were any good at what they do we wouldn't still need them.

That's called outsourced IT and I do it to Mr. Trump.

Now you're a liar.

If your religion computer was so great, why isn't the world beating a path to its door?

ROTFLMAO! You really don't have a clue, do you? Apple has never sought to dominate market share. . . Apple cares about what is far more important to be beating a path to their door: profit share! Here is a circle graph of the last quarter's world wide PC profit share for 2012, before the market drop in Windows PC sales. . .

. . . and it has only gotten better for Apple since then as the Windows PC sales have dropped while Mac sales and margins have grown. Last year Apple's topped 55% of all world wide PC sales profit share. So, the world has in a sense, been beating a path to Apple's door, bringing money, to buy the computers you denigrate.

Apple is the most valuable corporation in the world by market cap. . . It's now worth over $570 billion. The next closest company, Exxon Mobile, is worth $440 billion. Again evidence that the world is beating a path to Apple's door.

You whine like a little girl, it's a computer, not a heart lung machine machine but to listen to you, it saves lives, reduces global warming and replenishes the oil supply.

God! You can't have a civil conversation without insulting people can you? You are truly pathetic. The ad hominem attack is the refuge of the man who is bereft of facts. I have not "whined" at all. I have merely called you out on your bratty behavior. You are an ignorant, bratty, nasty piece of work who simply cannot stand to be disagreed with. . . You lash out at people you don't know with invective and insults. You behave like an ass.

I have attempted to have a civil conversation with you, but you refuse to even try.

I guess when you imagine that you're on the right side of history, the ad hominem attack against TXnMA was justified.

WHAT AD HOMINEM ATTACK ON TXnMA? You can't even be bothered to read what I write to you! You've not even bothered to check your facts, which makes you an idiot. You just see I responded, pull out your shotgun and blast away! I'll repeat it for the reading comprehension challenged. . . and the apparently totally bigoted, blind idiot you've turned out to be. AND I'LL SHOUT, TO GET THROUGH YOUR ABYSMALLY THICK SKULL. DennisW is the ONLY PERSON WHO ATTACK ANYONE ABOUT CAR PROJECTS, YOU IDIOT!!!!

Try reading what was written, for a change.

Does your domestic partner have to put up with this on a daily basis?

Again with the slur that I must be in a homosexual relationship. Do you do much projection? Frankly, you are coming across as really mentally ill, Lx. I suggest you seek help. Your aggressiveness suggests you may hurt others close to you.

Did I hit a a juicy target? Based on your writing, I don't think a Pulitzer is in your future and anyone can be an editor, ever hear of Wikipedia? You're frothy writing style is indicative of what, a ten year old? Embrace your MAC, it's probably all you have.

If you had accomplished all you say you have, you'd not even bother with an FR post.

Again, more attacks. You are not hitting any targets at all. Your attempts to start a flame war are pathetic. Your writing is poor. . . Repetitive and unimaginative, trite and banal. You repeat myths and untruths. And, no, not anyone can be an editor. It takes a special skill set to know what to remove to improve writing. There is no good writing, there is only good rewriting. Your attempts at getting me angry fail. You are a said pathetic, little wimp. You do ruin threads though. Sad. Your insults chase people out of the threads. They just leave, not wanting to be bothered reading the invective. They complain to me, so I try to stop people like you from doing it. I don't hit the abuse button because I don't want you to be banished from FR for breaking the rules.

You just refuse to take the hint.

Try just discussing things without insulting people. It is possible to disagree without attacking the character, background, intelligence, sexual orientation, and everything else about them. Try it, you might find it works better for you. Oh, and try reading what they actually say, rather than what you want to think they said. Don't put your interpretation of it into their mouths as quotes they supposedly said. Bad form. Time for this response, including searching for the graphic: 32 minutes. Quit implying I'm lying. Again, that won't win you brownie points in a debate. Some people who've written professionally can bang out things quite rapidly. Oh, and I was Multi-tasking. . . watching Pawn Stars with my girlfriend.
