Desmond Tutu has supported calls for a rethink on the Church of Englands stance on assisted dying claiming life should not be preserved at any cost.
The retired Anglican archbishop said laws to stop people being allowed help to end their lives removed their human right to dignity.
Tutu branded the treatment of Nelson Mandela, who was kept alive through a long and painful illness which saw him wheeled in and out of hospital and forced to take part in PR-driven photo shoots, an affront to Madibas dignity.
He claimed he did not want his own life to be prolonged artificially.

I guess the question is what is preserving life artificially.
You can live with dignity. You can’t die with it.
Lead by example.
Exactly. Life prolonged artificially can mean many things to many people.
I’m not in favor of withholding food and water from people. Like was done to that poor young woman in Florida.
Personally, I do not want to be hooked up to machines for any length of time.
Now suicide......I won’t help any person kill themselves. I couldn’t live with myself.
Great, I’m sure he’ll lead by example and begin with himself!
/ snerk.
Idiots like him usually want others to die instead.
Mr. Tutu (what a silly name, by the way): Can you PLEASE assist Mr. Mugabe then?
I wish he would. I still remember that dip sh!t said he would rather go to Hell, than go to a homophobic Heaven. I am pretty sure he will get his wish.
This mush mouth pioneered being treated like an intelligent, important person by the media based strictly on the color of his skin years before anyone knew who Barack Obama was.
Over time he’s revealed himself to be a cowardly doctrinaire champagne socialist like millions of others...yet he’s still treated as if his opinion matters a whit.
As usual, the article conflates artificially extending life with assisted dying. They are two very different things.
As in not hooking someone up to the ventilator versus giving them a lethal dose of painkiller.
For the most part, the campaign is waged against the strawman of people being forced to be hooked up to machines against their will. There are few if any people who support this.
But the strawman campaign, with the eager support of the media, continues, and before you know it we have doctors deciding who is too unhappy and quietly killing them, as in the Netherlands.
Very difficult to have an honest debate on the issue when one side is determined to be dishonest about their goals, and the media is determined to help them do so.
You first, holy man.
I wonder if someone will “assist” this marxist clown soon.
He should lead by example.
Dear Tutu:
You first.
He’s just another death-worshiping Marxist in clothed in religious garb.
I’m guessing he, like the rest of them, isn’t stepping to the front of the line.
Of course he does. With an AK 47.
For some reason, I can imagine Tutu, with a maniacal expression on his face, strangling an old lady in bed while laughing. Possibly using his clerical collar to do so.
Desmond Tutu: I support assisted dying (With a tapanga or a burning tire around the neck).
